The challenges, and your fervent responses to each challenge, are the exact proof of that.
I’m excited at what 2013 is going to bring, but first, let’s focus on reflecting on how 2012 has been for us. This is what the 2013 Countdown Challenge is for. Onward and forward with the challenge guys!

Only 12? Darn, this is going to be hard… wait! I’ll do month by month!
January – I started dating V, who is the most astonishing, loving, thoughtful, fun man I know. He’s also the sexiest man I have ever seen, let alone seen up close and personal. I have gained so much because of him, especially this year. He asked me twice to be his girlfriend, and after saying no twice because he’s so recently divorced, I finally said yes, as long as he starts including me in his kids’ lives. We’ll see how it goes!
February – V. introduced me to the other members of a startup company that he was a part of. They offered me a job, twice, and again, I accepted the second time. It’s a HUGE risk for me, personally, financially, and professionally.
March – I went to a contract position at my old job, and took on a contract position with the startup. Dicey finances, but so exciting!!
April – my son turned 18, and I celebrated real freedom from any further connection with his father, who was horribly abusive to me so long ago.
May – my birthday! I never work, I always play, and play hard! It was wonderful!
June – I started traveling more for work, and got 2 housekeepers who were kind and thoughtful
July – Independence Day in the US! one of my favorite holidays – our town reads the Declaration of Independence, with feeling and audience participation!
August – my son got his Boy Scout of America Eagle Rank Award – this is an enormous honor, and hard to achieve. I’m so proud of him!
September – I made great headway with my dad in getting him to take better care of himself, and letting me help him financially.
October – my daughter moved back with my sweet baby grandson; the housekeepers got a rare opportunity, and we settled in
November – my youngest son got much taller and suddenly more responsible – he made the Honor Roll at school!
December – tomorrow, at 6:30 am in the Pacific Northwest, it is the Solstice, and the sun comes back just a little bit more each day. ALL my 5 children will be here this weekend!

I’m so sorry for your loss.
Glad you have been able to overcome and grow through such a tragedy.
Thank you, I appreciate that. For a long time I put up a good fight to stay in my grief stricken world, though. I was the perfect actress and showed the public only my strength I pretended to always have and refused to show anyone my daily struggles, weaknesses and failures in dealing with Brian dying.
It is simply amazing what is possible and can happen when you choose to take the time to learn from the experiences you are going through and decide to trust in God and the people He places in your daily path to help guide you along.
The biggest thing that has changed is that Brian’s death does not define me today. It is not who I am, but it is honestly the most devastating thing I have ever experienced in my life. It also, though, is not something to be taken lightly or forgotten, because from it I have slowly been taught, with much resistance at times, some of the best lessons I believe I will ever receive in life.
I believe that if we have an opportunity like this one to really see how short life here on earth is and learn to embrace the acts of kindness and love in our daily lives, then we really are lacking in nothing.
This is a verse that popped out at me one day and partly the reason I decided to stop mourning. :) Thanks for letting me share!
James 1:2-4, “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
You are a very strong person.

1 – Still being here on the planet. Definitely a plus.
2 – The tarot group I attend weekly is still going strong. We have been meeting for years and I count these amazing women as some of my closest friends. They are all an inspiration to me. And studying Tarot opens up my world and my creativity in such a warm and imaginative way.
3 – Obama being re-elected. Fantastic.
4 – All my three adult children are coming home for Christmas. One is arriving home today, one tomorrow, and one on Sunday – I’m totally over-excited.
5 – Incredibly, I’m still married to my long suffering, absolutely lovely husband. Why he puts up with me I’ll never know, but I’m really glad he does.
6 – My eldest daughter finally found the strength to leave her husband. I am extremely proud of her and am thrilled to see her beginning to rebuild her life.
7 – I have learned to knit. Ok, so it’s still pretty basic (I’m knitting squares for a blanket!) but I feel like I’m a real star for doing this. I, too, am creative – well done me!
8 – I have appreciated our National Health Service very much this year (I live in the UK). I have had to avail myself of their services quite a lot in 2012 and have had such fantastic treatment and support. The nurses who so beautifully looked after me are all so dedicated, hard working and truly are angels. They also have a great sense of humour so I have had some of the best laughs of the year whilst attached to a drip in hospital. I love the NHS – thank you NHS. I am proud to live in a country that still has an NHS – just!
9 – Going out with our bird watching group has been a joy this year. A lovely bunch of people, beautiful places we’ve visited and I’m always in awe of the magic and thrill and beauty of the birds.
10 – My youngest daughter got a first class honours in her degree this year. She’s so brainy and hard working and I’m so proud. When we went to the degree award ceremony it was just like Hogwarts – all these students and lecturers in all these weird and wonderful gowns and caps – the ancient, beautiful buildings and the amazing great hall – all the strange ceremonies. All fabulous, and of course the sparkling wine was pretty good too!
11 – We have finally paid off our mortgage. Yes! Hip Hip Hurray!
12 – My middle daughter and her boyfriend moved into their very own place yesterday. They have been living together in a shared house for a while, but will now be living together on their own. I’m really thrilled for them.
It’s been so good doing today’s post. Thank you everyone and especially thank you Celeste.

The 12 Awesome Things About 2012 (in no particular order):
a. My husband and I went on 2 trips abroad together after being married for 6 years. We both travel overseas almost every year on our own for work. So these two holidays were particularly special because we finally got to share our passion for foreign culture together.
b. I love music and this year I made time to attend three concerts. Two of them were in Thailand. One of them I went with a friend, and both of us had never been to a concert in a foreign country. So it was scary yet very exciting. I can’t wait to do it again!
c. I got promoted and was given a chance to write an opinion piece. Never thought that would both happen in one year.
d. I bought 2 books written by blogger/author Gretchen Rubin. She inspired me to focus on increasing my happiness through means I have never thought of. I found out that I am happiest when I invest my time and money on gaining knowledge and experience. I would love a new handbag or pair of shoes but I find more satisfaction from travelling the world and meeting new people.
e. Believe it or not, Kpop. I’m glad the Gangnam Style phenomenon happened in 2012, although the song irritates me now LOL. But I have much respect for PSY and I have gained a deeper understanding of the Kpop fandom. It has literally changed my world. I feel so much younger and energised just from listening to the music and meeting other people who love this music genre.
f. I paid off 2 of 3 credit cards!! My husband and I finally had an honest look at our financial situationand decided to take control instead of letting it control us.
g. For the first time in 11 years of working, I created a routine that energises me. Now I know where my time is “invested” in — towards realising my goals :)
h. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now I know why I’ve been getting weird aches and pains. It sucks to have any form of arthritis at 34 but at least now I know what is wrong with me and am taking steps to alleviate my health problem.
i. I have suffered bad acne all of my life and this year I found a routine that really agrees with my skin :)
j. I volunteered to organise a simple birthday do. I never volunteer for such things. So this is an improvement. The best part is everyone had fun.
k. I rekindled an old friendship: I met Linda when I was in university. I was interested in her brother then but it didnt work out. But I got along with Linda then even though we had only met briefly. This year, I actually went to a concert with her — stood in line for five hours together with her and another friend for the concert tix — and we get along like I’ve known her all my life. So I guess this is life’s way of telling me that there is a reason for everything that happens in life, whether it is pleasant or not.
l. This would sum up the general theme of my year; I took control of my life. It feels great to be in charge even though things don’t always go my way. I would love for my RA to go away but that’s not likely to happen. But it has inspired me to reexamine my lifestyle etc.
12. I’ve spent some quality time with some quality people
11. I’m trying to learn to go with the flow and enjoy the moment *working on it*
10. I finally got my student loans consolidated!

7. I only have 7 more states to go to before I’ve hit all 50! *Somebody please send me to Hawaii!!*
6. I’ve realized the importance that relationships play in our lives
5. I took an amazing trip to Costa Rica
4. I have a stable career that allows me to handle my responsibilities
3. I fell in love like I’ve never fallen before
