This post is about the 14-Day Kindness Challenge held in Nov 2012, where we do different acts of kindness for 14 days. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the challenge tasks.
Our 14-Day Kindness Challenge has been picking up some steam in the media!!! :)
Media Coverage of the Challenge
My Paper / 我报 (Oct 25, 2012)
Greeted in the morning (Oct 25) with a feature in the Chinese version of My Paper, a local daily! My Paper has a local circulation of 300,000 and is amongst one of the highly distributed papers in Singapore.
The article talks about the Kindness Challenge, why I’m conducting it (to drive kindness among people) and how to sign up!
KISS92 FM (Oct–Nov 2012)
Went to Kiss92 FM studio for the recording of my next segment, including an announcement of the Kindness Challenge, slated to be aired next Monday! (That’s Arnold and Jason above, two of the hosts on the show.)
Update: For those who missed my Kiss92 episodes, listen to the recordings in my media section. The Kindness Challenge was mentioned in 3 episodes: (a) “Pursuing Your Passion” (Oct 29, 2012), (b) “Overcoming Procrastination” (Nov 5, 2012), and (b) “How to Handle Criticism” (Nov 12, 2012).
938 LIVE, Local English Radio Station (Oct 29, 2012)
I also got on the phone with Daniel Martin from 938 LIVE (another English-language radio station in Singapore), to talk about the Kindness Challenge and why everyone needs to take part.
The interview (about 5 minutes long) was part of the “Making a Difference” segment, which was broadcast four times throughout the day on Oct 29.
UFM 100.3, a Local Chinese Radio Station (Nov 1, 2012)
Last but not least, while I was on my way out of the media building, I got stopped by a radio deejay from UFM 100.3 (a Chinese radio station in Singapore), who asked if I was the person running the Kindness Challenge! He said that he thought the Kindness Challenge seemed interesting, and invited me to be on their show next week to talk about it.
The interview has been confirmed for this Thursday, Nov 1, for the segment 不给一口叮! It will be from 9am to 9:30/9:40am.
Lianhe Wanbao / 联合晚报 (Nov 1, 2012)
Oct 29: I just got a call from Lianhe Wanbao, a local Chinese daily, and an article on the Kindness Challenge will be going up tomorrow (Nov 1). (Update on Nov 1: The article is out on Page 5 of Wanbao!)
Lianhe Zaobao / 联合早报 (Nov 13, 2012)
We are on the Nov 13 issue of Lianhe Zaobao/ 联合早报! It’s the largest Singapore-based Chinese-language newspaper with a daily circulation of about 176,000,
Check out page 13 of the papers. It’s about the great success of the Kindness Challenge and how we have amassed over 800 participants around the world, hence proving that locals (and people around the world) are indeed kind. Thanks QH for the great coverage! :)
Asia One (Nov 14, 2012)
We got a feature on Asia One, talking about how the kindness challenge went viral with over 800 participants! :) It’s a refreshing change to see the local online media cover more positive news like this rather than sex-for-grades, man-pushes-elderly-woman off bus or ah-lian-argues-with-woman-on-train news, which are more negative.

938 LIVE, Second Interview (Nov 15, 2012)
Daniel Martin from 938 LIVE contacted me on Nov 14 to do a follow-up of the Kindness Challenge, as part of the “Making the Difference” segment. I shared the results of the challenge, the participant responses, and my plans moving forward.
The five-minute interview will be broadcast on Nov 15, at four different time slots: 6:35am, 11:45am, 1:35pm, and 8:45pm.
Shin Min News Daily… Not
Sadly, we were actually supposed to get an article on Shin Min News Daily (journalist even wrote the article and confirmed with me and it was supposed to be out that very evening), but it got shelved away at the last minute—probably because they had other news stories they wanted to feature.
That just meant it wasn’t meant to be, and I look forward to more opportunities in the future with Shin Min or other media.
Thank You!
Thank you to all the media outlets for your support and coverage of this grassroots-led initiative! For those of you who missed the interviews, you can listen to them in my media section here.
If you are a latecomer to this post, the challenge is now over, but you can still do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all Kindness Challenge tasks and posts.
