This is Day 17 of the 21-Day Positivity Challenge held in March 2012, where we work on being positive for 21 days. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the tasks.
21DPC Day 17 Question
On Day 6, you shared what makes you smile. Today, I’d like you to think about this:
What Makes You Laugh?
Is it watching your favorite sitcom / comedy / cartoon / variety show? Hanging out with your favorite friends? Playing board games with your friends? Attending stand up comedies? What makes you laugh?
(If you have a hard time thinking about things that make you laugh, think about the last few times when you had a great laugh. What were you doing? Who were you with? Why were you laughing?)
Your Task:
- Reflect and answer today’s question(s). Write as few or as many words as needed to fully express yourself.
- Do the things that make you laugh today! :D It can be one of the things you wrote for your answer to #1 or something else.
- Identify at least one positive thing about your day. It may be something small or something big – as long as you deem it as something positive, it counts. If you have more than 1 thing to share, then by all means, go for it!
Share Your Answers!
After you are done, share your answers in the comments area.
If you’re doing this at the start of the day, you can post your answer for today’s question first, then work on your positivity task throughout the day, then return at the end of the day to share your results for your positivity task and your end-of-day positive reflection.
Check out other participants’ answers. Pick 1-2 participants’ answers and make a meaningful reply to them. Engage in the discussions. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days!
Look forward to reading your responses!

What makes me laugh?
It’s my dog, when she’s jumping around and playing. I also laugh when have fun with my husband: I particularly enjoy his stupid jokes :P I just can’t help laughing sometimes! I enjoy funny video about animals on youtube. I’ll make sure to do everything above!
Good thing of the day: I went to the cosmetologist and scheduled the cleaning procedure for Tuesday. I also talked to my best friend and we decided to meet every Friday :D Hope we will do it!
I’m HAPPY!
I’m happy for you, stacey!! :D
Catching the latest sitcom on TVB is one of the things that make me laugh. Having breakfast with my family and enjoying one another company.
The first positive things on a beautiful Saturday morning is having the time to myself to do the things I enjoy, writing and updating my blog and writing to my subscribers.
Have a great morning!
I do agree with TVB, some of the shows are really good and destressing : )
a good sitcom & funny tom & jerry cartoon make me laugh. sometimes my son’s talk makes me smile. my husband’s jokes.
the positivity of today my son has gotten spring holidays, now we have a time for some fun..
Funny movies, silly jokes while chatting with friends.
I pampered myself by buying a sponge cake from the cheese cake shop. Not meant to have too much sweet stuff, but it’s good to reward ourselves from time to time..
After all life is too short
Funny movies make me laugh, watching a comedy show makes me laugh, listening to the 3am nursery rhyme recitation of my niece makes me laugh….. :D :D :D
Coming to think of it, there’s so much in this lil life of ours that strives to make us laugh, its like the world is like a clown, juggling its acts trying to make every moment of yours sound out with the prodigal melody of our laughter sounding out, the subtle jingle of our chuckle, the radiant twinkle of our eyes, the unbound glee of the heart…..
So I’d try not to ever miss such a moment, hope y’all there do so too!
Positive of the day My daughter is re-arranging her study table and cupboard, looked like a messy bird’s nest till this morning, now the busy bee is cleaning out her closet…..so nice to see such dedication and delicate handling of her work….
“…it’s like the world is like a clown, juggling its acts trying to make every moment of yours sound out with the prodigal melody of our laughter sounding out, the subtle jingle of our chuckle, the radiant twinkle of our eyes, the unbound glee of the heart…..”
It is indeed a beautiful word which has a lot of reasons to make us happy and determine us to smile/laugh. However, most of the time, we get so caught up in routine and we spend so much time worrying and lingering on upsetting matters instead of dealing with them at once and then moving on. Many think it’s crazy to believe that our happiness lies within us, but I truly think is it so. We are the ones responsible for how we feel, we either find ourselves a secluded corner of pain and stress or we open our eyes and look around us in order to finally see the beauty of the world, of our lives.
:D
Truly agree with the point of us deciding to lock ourselves in that dark cocoon or emerge out into the beautiful world…
What makes me laugh, TV shows and movies. My best friend says I watch it too much though. I quote movies a lot. I think my most favorite TV comedy is The Big Bang Theory. Show about geeks and one beautiful girl. The one geek completely head over heals over the beautiful girl.
And the other thing that makes me laugh is my best friend. She will say things to me via IM that will sometimes make me burst out laughing in from my office. I’m sure the director next door to my office thinks I’m nuts some times.
I started at 12:06 am so technically it is day 16, but tonight I had a good time with my local friends. We went out for dinner and one of my friends needed to practice his golf skills because he is in a work tournament in April. This will be the second time he has played golf.
It was quite entertaining at the driving range tonight, trying to teach him how to hit the ball.
I’m sure when I wake up I will find more things to laugh about outside my home. It’s not very festive at home now….. But getting out is making me feel good, and laughing.
it’s 12:06 am so Saturday just started, and I’m going to go to bed. I will report back in the afternoon for anything positive. I already know of one positive thing that will be waiting for me when I wake up. A good morning! message from my best friend!
I love The Big Bang Theory :D A friend suggested me this TV series and he said it’s a good one and once I began watching it, I was hooked. Another nice comedy TV series you might want to try (considering you like The Big Bang Theory) is How I Met Your Mother. It’s really funny and the episodes are short ones (around 20 mins) just like TBBT. :)
How I met your mother is good too. But kind of awkward to watch while the wife and I are watching TV, with the issues we have going on. Especially the time where Marshal and Lilly are separated.
Still a good show though.
Well it was a positive morning. I got the Good Morning! sitting in my IM this morning. But I woke up to a pounding headache. Drinking water and trying to decide if I want to go back to bed or take a steam hot shower.
Best of luck with whatever issues you and your lady are going through, Ken. Glad you’re finding ways to keep smiling and laughing through it – that’s very important. All the best!
What makes me laugh is when I am together with my Friends, Third and Jeb.
In fact, many people around us would say that we were insane,
we talked as if there is no tomorrow. We were having Fun, so much fun! :D
Great Ronelo :-) Its fantastic that you are having so much fun with your friends !
I like to do that too :-) it´s just the best,,,,we are sometimes having so much fun that people think we are totally crazy !
All the best in life is free :-) laughter i one of the best things excisting and it´s FREE
The things I laugh- a tv show which recently started and takes place every friday, the radio show I listen to every morning and evening, my husbands interesting questions, my best friend becouse she is choosing so interesting words to define a situation…
The positive thing for today it is a lovely bright sunny day and hopefully I will finalise my dental issues today:)
I think hanging out with my close friends (they are from my home country) is really fun. I laugh and laugh, I think it is part of our culture; we are all the time making jokes, having fun. My friends are very witty too. Today I won’t see them but just last night I spent some time with a couple of them.
Positive thing: I had a very long chat with my mom through Skype, she is in my hometown. We had the chance to talk a lot and even share, I was cooking and I was showing all that I was doing to her. It is great that nowadays the technology is amazing and it bridges the distance.
Gathering more people together who are alike-minded and in a good mood usually leads to tons of fun :D It’s impossible to hang out with close friends and keep a straight face, that’s why I really enjoy spending time with my friends.
That’s true Lina. It is so nice and relaxing. And it is an important part of the meaning of good friendships, have fun and enjoy spending time together : ) Have a nice weekend and thanks for your comment.
Diana
Movies staring Will Smith or certain action-comedies with Jackie Chan always make me laugh. Also, my father when he’s in a good mood and makes jokes and my friends when we hang out.
Gonna watch a Jackie Chan movie today – laugh all the way! xD
Positive thing: Cooking lunch with mom – boiled rice with some boiled meat on the side. I’m glad about both spending time with my mother AND the fact that the food is healthy
Hey which movie was it?
I too love Will Smith/Jackie Chan….talking bout Rush Hour right?
I believe Rush Hour was Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker (love the series!).
Karate Kid was the one with Jackie Chan and Will Smith, though Will Smith was the director and his son, Jayden Smith, was the one portraying the kid.
I personally love Jackie Chan movies too! I’m a big fan of his humor, action, and dedication towards his work.
As Celes said, in Rush Hour are Jackie and Chris Tucker. When I mentioned Will Smith and Jackie I meant it separately, they’ve never filmed together (as far as I know). They’re both good actors. :)
sorry my bad…got a lil mixed up..
Watching young children try to do something that is just beyond their abilities makes me laugh. They are so serious and determined, yet what they are trying to do is just beyond their reach. But that is how they grow. Of course, funny movies make me laugh as well.
Positive thing for today: saw a bunny in my yard this morning. My dog saw it too. Fortunately I had a good hold on his leash!
I love that too! My niece is 2 and some of the things she says and does just cracks me up! I was doing an exercise video once and she tried to do the moves with me and kept couting “ONE TWO EIGHT THREE” hahahaha!
Never thought about this one before. So, I had to take a few minutes longer to think about it.
* Reading comics like Garfield, Peanuts.
* Watching comedy programs on TV. I used to love watching Mr. Bean (maybe the young generation X and Y may not know him). He doesn’t speak but by his facial expression and body language, I can really have a good laugh. No matter how many repeats I see, I still can laugh at the same scene. In Singapore, there’s a locally produced television program called, “The Noose” – that can make me laugh out loud too.
* In family gatherings.
* In friends get-together.
* At odd times, when I recall some of the silly things I’ve done in the past, can also make me laugh, at myself. :D
Do the things that make you laugh today!
Today, I had a nice sharing with a classmate in this course that I’m taking and we both enjoyed a good laugh, at ourselves, when we shared about some funny scenario we had to put ourselves in for the practical part of the course.
Identify at least one positive thing about your day
* completed the first part of my practical in the course that I’m taking.
* get to know some of my classmates at a deeper level as we shared our stories.
* the trains are not so crowded today.
There are different things everyday:
watching a dog running behind his tail.
Seeing a baby eating noodles
Listen whistling to a parrot
Listen a good joke
When I was wearing two different shoes and I noticed it at work.
When I Carried the purse of my daugther insted of my lunchbox
I will remember more… It is so great to have a good laugh!!!!
The Big bang theory, friends shows…
:p
.
Aw, seeing a baby eating noodles? That must have been a cute sight! :D
My achievements
Anything good for the world :) :) :) :) :)
1. Naturally funny people who say and do funny things in real life, not on stage.
2. Talking with old friends about the past, and remembering funny things that we did when we were younger.
3. Animals doing funny things — either in real life on on TV.
A positive thing about today is that I planned a fun outing for my family, including looking at some dogs that we might adopt. I’m sure the dogs will make me laugh.
What Makes You Laugh?
whenever i make funny comments or jokes with ma mummy i laugh a lot,,,while playing cricket ,,in the company of beloved frends….
yeah company with mother made me laugh
positive thing for the day… had a fast,,practised with mother in clinic…and happy happy…
Day 17: What makes you laugh?
Funny comedy videos; going to see a comedy show; getting drunk with friends; hanging out with good friends; going on holiday; having a chat with a good friend on the phone; reading a funny book; playing board games with friends and families; looking through old photos.
Task: do one of those things today! I could look for a funny film on Netflix to watch with Adrian, we could play Monopoly or I could ring Kymon for a chat.
One positive thing about today: I have planned my easter break and my sister is coming to stay with me and I am seeing all my family in Easter!
What Makes You Laugh?
There are many things that make me laugh. A simple joke, reading comics, watching anime, writing blog posts, etc.

Do the things that make you laugh today!
Today, I marked my students’ assignments. It was a system about a game “Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire”. I tried to play the game, and I failed even in the first question of the game. I laughed, laughed at myself. XD

Today I submitted the income tax form online. According to the calculation, I have overpaid the income tax last year, so I will receive the income tax return payment soon. Waiting for money~~ :D
My dogs. My friends. Especially my best friend. I definitely haven’t been laughing enough lately. Not the real, genuine laughter that I miss. I’m working on it, though. And I’m making progress.
Positive things about today: I got a lot done this morning around the house. I got to talk to friends this morning. My daughter and I are going out shopping later. I have the money to buy a new comforter I’ve wanted for months.
What Makes You Laugh?
Chatting with really humorous friends. Some of them are so funny that I will crack up just by looking at them. Having fun with friends, doing things together, make us laugh too.
I read 9GAG sometimes. The posts are really funny generally and relate to us, especially for the younger people, although the subject matter can be negative as well as inappropriate.
I can’t believe I will write this in the Positivity Challenge, but I am actually a fan of Girls’ Generation (SNSD). I saw them as a generic girl group at the start, but I was drawn to their dorky, diverse and funny personalities between the 9 members. Incidentally, one of the members, Seohyun, is genuinely passionate in the area of personal development. This makes her extremely unique in the industry too, where such portrayal of idols is very rare. Back to the question, I enjoy watching their videos from variety shows, as their natural interactions with people and one another are funny. Sometimes, I will simply cry with laughter while watching the shows. This is one big reason of why I am a fan of them now.
Looking at some of the comments, I remember that I used to watch ‘How I Met Your Mother’ until the last season. The show was really funny and I enjoyed watching it. Also, when I was kid, I would laugh until I was gasping for breath while watching ‘Tom and Jerry’.
Identify at least one positive thing about your day.
I attended the Toastmasters meeting today and enjoyed it.
My cats make me laugh, especially when they are chasing each other around, or “hunting” some object in the house. My husband has a great sense of humour too and sometimes says or does the funniest things. If I’m having a bad day, he makes it his personal mission to not stop pestering me until he makes me smile. He also won’t accept anything other than a REAL smile, so I have no choice but to feel better. :D
There are lots of other things that make me laugh, especially comedy shows and movies. We love watching Big Bang Theory, and I also love movies with Jim Carrey or Will Smith in them.
I think tonight I will suggest to my husband that we watch a comedy together.
My positive thing for today: The sun is shining and I’ve got almost all of the housework done! :)
LAUGHING MATTERS!
(or at least some good chuckles or smirks!!!) :D
Something that is unusually unexpected (in an “up,” happy or quirky way)
Someone surprising me (a happy, good surprise)
Irony often get a chuckle, or a laugh
Reading funny things that people say or do
Someone who has a certain look on their face, like a deadpan expression
The antics of puppies, kittens, etc.
NOT supposed to laugh (sometimes leads to unexplainable, uncontrollable, eye-tearing laughter!..Like being in church, a solemn occasion, or a silent retreat, etc.
Funny, clever, unexpected sayings on billboards
Funny, out-of-place, unexpected images
Being so happy, I just burst into laughter (after a few shrieks of joy)
Hilarious, preposterous scenes, or people’s outlandish behavior in movies.
Out of sheer joy….
People who have a wry sense of humor, or use understatement or exaggeration at just at the right time.
A joke that is really funny to me
My sense of humor (my friend laughs SO HARD at things I say…don’t know what it is that is SO funny
sometimes, but her hilarious, deep laughter gets me to REALLY laughing with her with wild abandon!
Sometimes I just make myself laugh by being goofy, and that makes me goofier, and makes me laugh even more till I get quite a workout laughing!
TODAY…A POSITIVE AND A LAUGH
A few of us were out in the courtyard this morning, and some negatives came up, and I said, “Cmon now, let’s flip this around you guys, let’s make positives, and my friend Mark says:
Oh, you mean like how the optimist says the glass is half full and the pessimist says the glass is half empty, and the opportunist DRINKS the water while the other two are discussing it !!!!!
That made us all laugh, and it shifted the energy!!! YAY!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
i really like the joke about the half empty/full glass of water! thanks for sharing!!!
There are a lot of little things in life that make me laugh. Everything from a song playing on a radio that will remind me of a time past, to the joyful play of a child or animal, to even the worst in wisecracks from a stand up comic. I think the biggest thing that causes laughter in me though can be other people and the actions they might have at times.
Today’s positive thing actually goes back to yesterday. I was able to get an extra overtime hour into my schedule this week dure to creative scheduling. Hopefully there will be a couple more in the next day or two because I can really use the money.
Joking with friends and family, my crazy dog, watching SATC or Friends :)
i have laughed with my flatmate today about some funny things that happened last night ;)
positive things for today: i made some cookies (‘healthy’ish ones with cranberries, oats, orange and dark choc), had a lie-in, read an amazing book, Skyped my parents, planned a day trip for tomorrow, and am going to bed early (so rock’n’roll) ;)
What makes me laugh?
My younger sister does me make laugh and every time i chat with her i am guaranteed to have a very good laugh! She is an amazing soul.
watching some comedies also makes me laugh..
Positive thing about today is that a few of my friends checked on how I was doing.. ( very unexpected) but i was touched that they are thinking about me
Watching my boyfriend try to whistle, joking with my sister about how we’ll take Wimbeldon on day, Mr. Bean, and talking with an Eesex accent.
Positive: felt really good about my photo shoot today – I made a new friend and it put (and kept) me in a good mood!
Ok new laugh-maker: this dance emoticon is too cute!
Whenever I see my friends, I just naturally smile, which makes them smile, which makes me smile even more, then everyone starts laughing. I can’t help but grin whenever I see them ^_^
My friend invited me for dinner tonight so I’ll be seeing her and smile~~~
Something positive today, it’s Friday and I am relaxing a tiny bit before I start doing some homeworks
There are some particular memories that always make me laugh. I also like “grade school humor” — puns, knock-knock jokes, elephant jokes, pickle jokes, that kind of thing. There is one joke that no one else thinks is funny and I always crack up when I tell it and people don’t laugh.
There are two people who always make me laugh. I will see one of them on Monday.
Another thing that makes me laugh is saying things that make my husband laugh. The other night we were talking about carats, the measure of the purity of gold. I said there were two other kinds — the kind that tells how big a diamond is, and the kind that Bugs Bunny eats.
This is something spontaneous but I always look for opporunities to do so!
The positive thing today: beautiful weather and I spent hours this afternoon on the front porch enjoying it and talking with the neighbors.
What Makes You Laugh?
– My dogs. At least several times a day. When I get old and wrinkly they will be to blame for my laugh lines. <3 I also laugh a lot when we watch some TV shows like Archer, The Office, Mythbusters, etc.
Do the things that make you laugh today!
– It's the end of the day, so I don't have a chance to watch Netflix, but Storm definitely made up for that. He completely spazzed out when we got home, running in circles and play-bowing all over the place. I thought I was going to pee my pants from laughing. XD
Identify at least one positive thing about your day.
– I took a pet CPR/First Aid course, which was really imformative and interesting! The instructor is going to get me in touch with some local rescue organization, too, which is extra cool. :)
