21DPC Day 1 – On a Scale of 1-10, How Happy Are You? And Why?

This is Day 1 of the 21-Day Positivity Challenge held in March 2012, where we work on being positive for 21 days. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the challenge tasks.

Hello everyone, and welcome to Day 1 of the 21-Day Positivity Challenge (21DPC)!! :D *dance*

We have over *300* official participants now!! To all of you who have duly signed up and helped spread the word to your social networks (or even via blogging about it), thank you. The challenge can only be a success through our collective efforts. The more people sign on to 21DPC, the better it will be for everyone, because hey – that means even more positive energy to go around. :D There is never a limit to how much positive energy there can be – abundance has no lmits.

For those of you whose friends / family read your message and decided to join in on 21DPC too, that’s fabulous. PE Challenges are always particularly fun when you get to do it with someone you know! You can keep each other accountable and learn more about each other in the process.

If you are doing it by yourself, not to fret. We have over 300 official participants here with us for 21DPC, and we’re definitely going to get more people joining us over the next few days before I close the sign ups. In the course of these 21 days, all of us will be doing 21DPC together as one, reflecting on the daily questions, sharing our answers in the comments section of the daily posts, and engaging each other in meaningful discussions.

This is a challenge to be done together as a community, as a group, as one Personal Excellence family, which is really the reason why PE is even here. So do not be afraid to share your answers openly and be fully honest with yourself here. There is no judgment here; anyone who tries to do that will be promptly barred from the site. The .co in the PE domain represents community, not individuality- always remember that whenever you come here to the site.

Important: Sign Up First Before Reading Any Further

If you’re new to 21-Day Positivity Challenge, or you have not signed up yet (your name should be in the official participants list), please read the announcement post and sign up first before going any further: 21-Day Positivity Challenge. All details on the challenge, what to expect, and how to sign up can be found at the post.

If you have already duly completed the 3 sign up steps, your name will be added in the next 36 hours. ♥ Thank you!

Update March 5: Sign ups are now closed now – thanks everyone for your amazing response! For those who didn’t get to sign up – you are more than welcome to participate and join us in the daily threads!

What To Expect for the Next 21 Days

1. Positivity Question

Changing Your Life, Starting From Your Thoughts

As you have read in the announcement post, I will be assigning you a positivity question every day, for the next 21 days.

The question may be simple, like asking “What is your favorite movie?” to something deeper, like “What is 1 positive thing you can share about your least favorite person?” There are days when there will be 2-3 questions combined into 1 (for example, today’s question) – you are expected to answer all the questions, and not just answer the first one and skip the rest.

The idea is to cultivate positivity in your life, via working on the root of it all – our thoughts. Asking ourselves the right questions will help us think in the right manner. And from there, the right actions, habits, and behavior will follow suit. As the saying goes:

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.” — Anonymous

Your Honesty Required

My request to you is to be as completely honest with yourself in answering the questions. Because the more honest you are, the more insights you will unveil, the more you will grow. Think of it as it you’re in a dark room alone, by yourself, and there’s no one there to listen, comment, or judge. What is the first thing that comes to mind? What would be your most truthful response to the question?

This challenge is not about sugar-coated answers and creating an illusion of happiness and positivity to everyone out there. You are probably kidding yourself if you think we’ll be jumping around in these 21 days, skipping merrily, laughing like little kids and forcing ourselves to smile every day.

Don’t feel that there’s a need for you to write something positive just because this is a positivity challenge, because that’s totally untrue. As I shared in Principle #1 of 10 Timeless Principles To Be Happy, part of being happy / positive includes airing out grievances, unhappiness, frustrations, anger, sadness, disappointment, etc inside of you – whatever they may be. These (negative) energies, when unaired, are merely *stuck* in your consciousness, with nowhere else to go.

In the end, they end up affecting you on a subconscious level, in more ways than you can imagine. The more (unhappiness) you release through your answers in 21DPC (in a constructive manner, of course), the more happiness can flow your way.

2. Positivity Task

Most of the days will have a positivity task assigned. This task is linked to the day’s question, and usually comprises of a simple action that can be done on the day itself. Do complete the task as part of your 21DPC participation.

3. Positive Thing For the Day

Last but not least, you are to identify at least 1 positive thing that you got out of the day, for every day of 21DPC. If you can identify more than 1, that’s even better! The more the better! :D

Sharing To Help Yourself and Help Others

As with every challenge, I highly recommend you share your responses in the comments section of the daily posts with the other participants, to get the most out of your 21DPC experience.

If you’re not comfortable sharing your answers under your usual name/nick on PE, then create some fake, random nick (so no one will know it’s you) and post your answers under that nick (for the remainder of 21DPC, if you want). Replace others’ names (if any) in your answers with fake nicks as well. There is always something powerful about transparently writing your thoughts out there in the open, vs. keeping it to yourself in your little book.

Besides, do not underestimate the change you can make in others’ lives just by sharing your answers here. After all, have you not benefited in the past from reading honest sharings by others, be it on Personal Excellence, or on other websites? What would the world be if no one wants to share? Think about the people out there you can effect. By helping others, you are also helping yourself.

21DPC Day 1 Question

Given that this is a positivity challenge, for Day 1 today, I want you to think about how happy you are. Not just today, but as a person.

On a Scale of 1-10, How Happy Are You? And Why?

Share as much as you want in your answers, from a few words to a few pages long. Be honest as you can. Answer both questions, and not just the first question.

And if you did not give yourself a 10/10 for your score, I have one additional question for you:

Why Did You Not Give Yourself a 10/10?

Again, be completely honest in your response. There is no judgment here at PE. Only positivity and love.

While we’re on the topic of happiness, be sure to check out the related articles on how to achieve happiness (or unhappiness, as per the second article) at PE:

  1. 10 Timeless Principles To Be Happy
  2. 10 Surefire Ways To Be Unhappy

…and the manifesto versions:

  1. The Happiness Manifesto
  2. The Unhappiness Manifesto

Your Tasks Today

  1. Reflect and answer today’s question(s). Write as few or as many words as needed to fully express your thoughts. There is no word limit.
  2. Identify at least one positive thing about your day. It may be something small or something big – as long as you deem it as something positive, it counts. If you have more than 1 thing to share, then by all means, go for it!

Share Your Answers!

After you are done, share your answers in the comments area!

If you’re doing this at the start of the day, you can post your answer for today’s question first, then return at the end of the day to answer the 2nd part, on identifying at least one positive thing about your day.

Check out other participants’ answers. Pick 1-2 participants’ answers and make a meaningful reply to them. Engage in the discussions. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days!

Look forward to reading your responses!

  1. Today I’ve give myself a 6/10.
Why? Because what I feel today is somewhere between “meh” and “sober optimism” :P does that make sense?
I was just a little tired today… I had to do a lot of work around the house. Plus, my Mom’s in a bad mood today. So, its kinda affecting me as well. Every time I focus on something uplifting and build up my mood, she says or does something that just shoots it down!! Then I shake it off and start all over again :P
Usually, I’m pretty optimistic. Really! But its been a week now and I somehow just slipped into ‘blah-ness’ ever since I stopped sticking to my goals.
On a lighter note, I did wake up today promising myself that I would begin afresh. Today moved on very slow but there has been quite a lot of progress and I know for sure things can only get better… :D

Right now, I wouldn’t really call me happy but yea, I think ‘determined’ and ‘optimistic’ best describes what I feel right now. It isn’t much but I think its a good place to start from.

  2. I would say that on a scale of 10, I would rate my happiness at 7. I am lucky to have a very loving and caring lifepartner, parents, and soon expecting a baby. Have reassociated back with my parents after a long time due to my career goals abroad.

What will take me to 10/10 :

I need to engage myself in acquiring a masters’ and getting to a counrty of my choice and find a job, which is worthwhile….get more healthier…

    Today’s positive thing :

Registered a weight loss of 1.2 kg (after a workout in my gym for last 4 days)

  3. i would rate my curent happiness at 7 out of 10 … because i know i can count on some real friends to help me however they can if i have problems, because my sister has almost finished with the medical analysis that i have asked her to do because she has some medical problems …but i can’t find my concentration to work on a project and my apartement mate is kicking me out!

and it’s 1st of mars! so that means spring is here …. i’m waiting the green now

  4. Sorry, I missed the question yesterday because I thought the chellenge started today.
My happiness yesterday was about a 4 out of 10. This is not normal for me but I had some Reiki healing work done and as I’m flushing out the old stuff my moods/feelings have been out of sorts.
I belong to a womens motorcycle riding group, and although I didn’t ride yesterday, I did meet them for lunch which was a wonderful escape from my job search and got me out of the house.
I am grateful for all the abundance I have in my life! I am truly blessed!

  5. On a scale from 1 to 10, I am a 10. Happy about life and living in happy staying present in the moment!

  6. I’m not sure where my happines is on the scale. But I could say 5 out of 10.
I couldn’t give 10/10 because I know my life is lacking things that make me happy.
I’m happy that I have life, health, family, boyfriend, some good abilities.
But the way I live with all I have, doesn’t make me happy.

I feel like it is not good to bother people with my life story, because I know my life isn’t all that bad . So I can only state why I’m not happy: my lack of persistance, patience, concentration, self-awareness, discipline…for being under pressure and stressed out for nothing, caring for opinions of others. I probably forgot something ;)

I want to change the way I live, for now I’m doing it in baby steps (tho I would rather take a few giant steps) :) . I feel really happy when I do something good for myself at these times when I don’t feel like myself anymore. :) I’m really glad I’ve taken this step to become more positive. Without positivity , it is hard to do anything in life. I want to find what are the breaks in my life, stopping me from being happy.

Celes, thank you for making this kind of challenge.

give myself an 8 out of 10 in happiness.

I am living the life I want and I can have at this right moment. There are some things lacking, but I am on my way to make them better. Over all, I am a very happy person. I am healthy, sporty, beautiful, wealthy and I am free to do things I like, for example going to vitis iceland tomorrow or riding my motorbike in summer. I have a loving family, a caring boyfriend and wonderful friends.

Although I life a wonderful life, there is one goal, I did not reach until now. I want to start my own family. It didn´t work for the last 10 years and I am 38 years old now. This is my big wish for the future, the lack in my life.

Today I celebrate my 10th year at my current employer. There have been times I found my job horrible, but right now I am very proud of still having it. It is a wonderful job with wonderful colleagues and much freedom. Today, we had alcohol free sparkling wine, strawberries and chocolate :)

  8. I would rate myself about 5/10.
The reason for this would be that I have not yet been able to reach my goals. I start so many things well but have not been able to follow them through and finish them up.

About three weeks ago I have been reading a lot on developing a personal growth plan. with that kind of a plan I go into a day knowing exactly what to do. So I am improving a lot due to that and today is one of those days where I feel so fulfilled because I did every single thing that I set out to do.

it is a great day indeed.

  9. At the moment I would say a 4/10 but this can dip to a 2 at times! I’ve managed to get caught in this cycle of negativity, cynicism and anger which until now i have blamed others for, but have hopefully now realised that it is only I who can break this cycle. I’m starting with this challenge and at the same time creating my own ‘bucket list’ to use as a focus, figure that diverting my attention in this way will be the start of finding a good place to be. Good luck everyone.

  10. That friend took care for me when I was ill. that time I met a lot of bad luck things and I’m not with my family. I am always grateful to you

  11. I give myself a 1/10 rating for my current happiness; I am just feeling at this point that there is not much left at all to be happy about for me in my life.

I didn’t give myself a 10/10 because I am just at rock bottom in most of the areas of my life and I feel like I don’t have a lot and I will never catch up. I am also feeling like I can’t change it, because I have lived this way for so long and I just can’t seem to flick the switch because I’m just not strong enough to.

My positive/happy moment for today has been that I am sitting here typing and my cat Lucky has crawled onto my legs to go to sleep. She was dumped by my cousin’s unit and was so tiny at first that the rangers were going to put her to sleep straight away. I took her in and now we are best buds.

    • Oscar, i can assure you that you are not alone in this feeling, though you are definitely stronger than you believe yourself to be. As evidenced by you joining this challenge and being honest with how you are really feeling (it is scary to really look within and then put it out there).

Posting here was your first step in creating happiness and positive change, Congratulations!

      • Ella, thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement. People in my life are always telling me that I am much stronger than I think I am, I just have to learn to believe them.

    • Start small…every journey starts with one step. Look at the language you have used in your post there are lots of negative words: didn’t, don’t, not, can’t. Why not try and see if you can re-phrase what you have written in a more positive way. Instead of thinking you can’t change it, think about what you could change (even the smallest thing) and when you make that change, you will feel better and that will encourage you to try and change something else. Nothing that is worth doing is ever easy…slow and steady is the answer! Good luck.

  12. 6/10. I have a severe social phobia, OCD and GAD, which decreases my level of happiness. I also had to go through a loss of certain important people, such as my two friends (one died, the other came to a conclusion that since she’s a boyfriend she no longer needs her best friend), my grandpa and granny. But now, that I’m in college and had met someone who seems to understand me and with whom I can be totally honest, I believe that I will slowly improve and raise my sense of happiness one step at a time. And the objective is to complete an emotional marathon :D

Something positive about my day is that it’s a lovely and warm day, everything seems to be so lively that it puts me into a really positive mood :) And I didn’t have a panic attack yet!

    Joined the group…

I’d give it a 7 rating. Quite low, you say? That would be an honest reply. This is a rate I’d give in general. If given the chance to break it down into different aspects then I would give a lot of numbers then.

to be continued here: http://thewifeyjournals.com

  14. I would say that I am an 8/10. I find myself happy most of the time. I think to myself a lot inside of my head and that helps me stay positive. I live in Michigan so it is very easy to let the weather affect me, whether its rain or snow. Some of my outward happiness however, happens because I am trying to please others and I don’t want anyone to ask me what is wrong. When this is the case, I build up either stress or anger inside myself. This ends up causing a downward spiral and my mood can last for a couple days. I find that I do have wonderful people in my everyday life. I need to utilize them more and trust them with my feelings. Opening up and letting others in is my downfall and puts more pressure on myself to deal with everything that I am feeling. Starting this 21 day challenge will be a decision that I am making for myself, to create an outlet for all the feelings I keep inside, whether they are good or bad. Those of you reading this will, just like the people in my life, listen and give advice because you as well are going through the same things as me.
GOOD THING: Today I was able to sit down and spend the morning with myself, drinking my favorite cup of coffee and protein shake. Taking this time helps me refocus and make positive energy for myself to continue on throughout my day! I hope that everyone can take a moment each day to do the same for yourself. Knowing that you are worth this time is the first step  YOU ARE!

  15. Arnold Tse 14 years ago

It really depends on my mood. There are times when I feel absolutely euphoric and would give myself 11 out of 10 (why not?), like when I’ve just completed a good workout. I don’t know why, but sometimes I can be really negative and even become cynical. Then, I’d give myself a 5 out of 10. Overall, I’d say 8 out of 10.

After completing this challenge, I hope to achieve a 10 out of 10. I will learn to cope with negative thoughts (instead of trying to hide or suppress them), and learn to be more empathetic. One of the reasons why I can be negative is that in some social situations, I am afraid that other people will hurt me (which is a totally unjustified feeling, I know), so I try to avoid any contact and shut myself away from other people. I have become more confident over the past few years, and will continue to improve through doing this challenge =)

    • Hi Arnold I relate to the ups and downs, I’m the same after going running or completing a task I had thought would be impossible. Let’s all aim for 10/10 and keep the habit!

  16. I would give myself a 5/10. I am stuck in a job I hate, with a boss who is always on my case. My love life is nonexistent for the last couple of years and I feel lonely. I would really love to leave my job and I am hoping I get another offer elsewhere. My financials are so-so, I make barely enough to sustain myself. But on the other hand, I am happily healthy and alive! I absolutely adore my little sister, she is the most positive thing and she sure spreads the cheer! Mum and dad are alive…not very healthy but there. And I am grateful to God for my family, the job I hate (lots of people do not have jobs) a roof over my head and food to eat.

As for positive things today, two good friends I had not spoken to for a long time called me, my kid sis as usual made me laugh, and I have posted my very first comment on Personal Excellence…Yay!!

  17. I would rate myself 7 / 10. I am satisfied with what I have turned out to be and I am proud of myself. I have understood the first step of living a happy life is to be content with yourself.

Earlier, I was confused with “happiness”, “fun” and “excited”. I would accept I was happy only when I had a great day or was with the people or at the environment I liked. Now I guess, I have become more matured (or so :P ). I understood that having fun / blast with friends or family is not what happiness is.

I have made complete peace with myself and accepted the mistakes I have committed and decisions already made. Now I give myself more “Me” time and not hanging around people just to have company.

Way to go 2012, you have been treating me well!!

Well, I could not come to rate myself more than 7, because there are more areas that I have to work on, challenges to keep up. Hopefully by the end of 2012, I would be rating a 8 or 9 :)

    • My positive things for the day:

      1. Though I am down with an eye infection right now, it has helped me to spend sometime around my Mom and sister, after quite a long time. And I dont have to spend sleepless nights thinking of presentations :P :P

      2. I had a reasonably short power nap today noon :) It has got my creative juices flowing :) Hopefully I use them :P

  18. Helene Domi 14 years ago

Right now I am a 4/10.  I am in the middle of a tough season in my life. I am the 24/7 caregiver for my 87-yr old mother, who has end-stage congestive heart failure. It is a slow decline towards death for her and so difficult to experience.  I also lost my brother in law to cancer yesterday and my 12 yr old great niece is engaged in her own fight against cancer.

I didn’t give myself a 10/10 and I wouldn’t have, even if I didn’t have all of the above going on, because I also have a neurological disease called acute disseminated encephalomyletis (ADEM). I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet/legs and arms/hands. It is painful and is a struggle to deal with every day.

There are 2 positive takeaways from today: I am determined to participate in this experience and change my outlook.
Secondly, my 16-yr. old son and I made dinner and had a blast!!!! Lots of laughter and happiness.

  19. Hello Everyone..

So My Happiness meter says : 7.5/10..

Thus, I am 75 % happy as of now.( since its really a subjective matter and it changes with your moods, reflection towards life etc.). I m happy because I have a supportive and caring family, a decent job, good health (could be better – counts in the other 25%).

Regarding why not 10/10 – lot of factors (again subjective), some stress about the job, not in a relationship, so kinda feels alone sometimes, with very less friends, not being able to do what my logical mind says and is right and end up doing something else or nothing(esp in social situations – as i feel shy sometimes).

But I do enjoy the small stuff in life – be it a piece of music, the rising sun or simply feeling great when i see others happy.

And the one positive thing about the day – posting this, and finally deciding to get on right track…thanx already 21DPC !!

    • Dear Ankit

I can totally relate to the way you feel regarding stress and shy, as I had passed through the same situation several times. Especially in social get-together, with family and elders, though I am fairly extrovert when I am with friends.

Hope the mood swings are just short lived :)

  20. Pragati Arora 14 years ago

    I will give myself a 7 /10 .
I consider myself lucky enuf to hve a great family and great friends. And by God’s Grace , I m born perfectly normal. But yeah , 3 points deducted from the 10 scale cz i have a long way to go in respect of my studies and career. Though, even though, all is on track..!
    N yeah, a good soulmate needed..that will make a 10/10.. :)

  21. On a scale of 1-10 I would say that I am happy at 8. My first instincts are to reflect on why I lose the 9& the 10. That disappoints me to a greater degree because I pride myself on being a positive person. If I am such a positive person why did I read this question, think the number 8 and then my thoughts flow immediately to why the two are lost? That is interesting to me.

Having said that, to maintain the focus of the positive day journal, I will tell you why I am happy 8! These are but a few of the numerous reasons for my happiness and they by no means exhaust my list. I give thanks for the gratitude that lives within my heart!

 I have an absolutely terrific husband who is hubby, soul mate and friend.
 We share a passion for so many things alike it makes sharing our lives together so very much easier and uncomplicated
 My hubby has survived and quite well I might add 4 open heart surgeries, three pacemakers and any number of complications in between. He is however, healthier than most who may even read this. His inspiration for living a good life moves me
 I have two very handsome, healthy and independent sons
 I have three biological grandchildren and one inherited granddaughter that add so much life to my years. Being with them makes me heart melt
 I have a beautiful 100 pound Chocolate Lab that is the biggest sook you could ever imagine. She feeds my soul with genuine trust and love.
 I have an incredible job that offers me independence, security and focus
 I have so many people that I can share my life with, friends, family, acquaintances, sports buddies, card buddies, and co-workers. I am very blessed to be surrounded by people and I like it that way!
 I am healthy as an ox! Thank the gods for that!
 I have a beautiful home and a lovely summer place with poetic grounds. While the best things in life are not “things”, I do enjoy the pleasure of those “things”. Call me materialist, I speak it as I feel it.
 I travel to so many places and I have been to places I would have never dreamed I would. There have been times I’ve stood somewhere with tears of happiness in my eyes for the gratitude that fills my heart and my soul that the flow of life brought me to where I was
 When I close my hands in prayer I give thanks for the gifts of; Health, Happiness, Hope, Family, Faith, Friends, Fun, Freedom, Love, Life and Laughter.
o Gratitude is a gift of the heart
o If the only prayer you ever said was thank-you, it would be enough

To reach my full 10 :

 I would have to feel a stronger, more fulfilled relationship with both my sons and their families.
 I would have to be financially secure enough to retire today and enjoy retirement with the max of travel and love life to the fullest with my husband who is already retired
 I would want to correct some lost friendships along my journey
 I would want to erase a few things and not just from my mind

 TODAY: One thing that I am truly thankful for is my Mom! It is her 79th Birthday today and I am ecstatic for her good health, her positive and keen mind. I am blessed that we get to share such wonderful times with her and I thank the gods for taking good care of her!

    Smiles

  22. I would give myself 4/5…
reason of such a low score is – I am job less at the moment, I have been preparing for some competitive exam but I find myself slacking off quiet a lot and get diverted pretty easily…
Also, I am facing some health related problems…..its really tough to keep your spirits high if your health is low….though I have started feeling better for last one week and infact have started exercising since 3 days…..hopefully it will continue this way :)
Hopefully I will feel better in the course of 21DPC….:)
one positive thing I did today – I guess getting up early and exercising :)

  23. On a scale of 1 to 10, i would rate myself at a 2.
i feel stuck in my life and can not seem to find a clear path that will inspire passion and happiness. I have made some decisions based on fear and some out of shear impulse (you know, the good old fashioned trust your gut phrase). Both have led to either missed opportunities or taking advantage of the wrong opportunities. I watch people that have success and passion in their lives and wonder where did i go wrong. Why cant i also have such clear and definitive purpose in my life?

This has all led me to be very sad inside. Though to look at me from the outside, you would think that i am one of the happiest and most positive people on the planet. What is that old saying? “Fake it until you make it”. Sigh, I am getting older, not a ton of time to keep faking it hoping it will all become clear and I will make it.

    • Helene Domi 14 years ago

Ella, that’s my mom’s name and my niece’s name!!
I too am getting older and sometimes feel that time has left me behind in the dust. BUT, we can both start over anytime. So, let’s do it!!!
You did one positive thing–you engaged yourself here. Congratulations.

      • Domi, your comment and encouragement really made my day! Thank you!

Thank you for also letting me know I am not alone with this struggle. I was sitting here reading everyone else’s number scale thinking, wow, I must have really missed something as most people seem to be in the seven plus range (which is wonderful).

I am really grateful for this challenge and have hope that these excercises and insights will help to kickstart the process to finding the right purpose for us “dust collectors” (smile).

I agree that it is possible and time to start over and find that path to happiness, passion, and purpose.

        Let’s do it Domi!!!

  24. Hi,

I would rate myself 6/10. Based on your recent article on happiness, I found in my self many habits which leads to unhappiness but thanks to Celes and PE forum, I can identify the root cause and work on them to be more happier.

This morning I had chance to meet my old colleques, now I feel very greatful and thankful to Almighty about the career growth which I had as compared to last year. :)

  25. My happiness scale is 6/10. The primary reason it’s not 10/10 is I’m nearing a possible financial meltdown. My efforts to develop new income streams are presenting additional challenges.

On the more positive side, I’m in the best relationship of my life and I’m surrounded by loving, supportive people for which I’m very grateful.

    • Jim, I am also facing the same problem as it is, but i am walking on faith.. though it has been hard, i keep on hoping for the best everyday..Lucky you have relationships that uplifts you…all the best

Example of a task in positivity. The Director of a Secondary School had requested me to talk to the Senior Students on Values. I had accepted the proposal but did not give any positive reply regarding date. So the issue was dragging on for a while. Today in the wake of the positivity challenge, I made it a point to contact the Director, discuss the scope of the address and fixed up adate ant time convenient to all. I felt relieved, and am now going about preparing for the talk.

  27. On a Scale of 1-10, How Happy Are You? And Why?

6/10. I have many things to look forward in life. Working towards my fullest potential, loving and caring other people, and contributing to the world are my purposes in life. However, as I just came out from the army, I have to get back the momentum in getting myself pumped up to do all these things again. So I am currently working towards living a purposeful life.

Why Did You Not Give Yourself a 10/10?

I am still in a rather low motivation to live the life I want because I just came out from the army last week. I had not much time to devote full time in my personal development due to the workload and lack of time I had in the previous several months. Since now I have loads of free time before enrolling to university, I am taking action towards living the life I want and doing what I love to do. ;)

Identify at least one positive thing about your day.

Doing this reflection gives me the momentum to come back up to do what I enjoy doing (reading, writing, learning and more), just that I have not really focused on doing them regularly for quite some time. So I need to build myself back up to enjoy doing them every day by cultivating good habits. :D

I rate myself at 7/10 on the positivity scale. It could have been lower still. But, call it instinct, my external attitude always emit positivity, and all those I come around, or almost, are gratified by my presence, by whatever I have to say, always taking upon myself, honestlly that I have a suggestion to make in the resolution of a problem; it is my duty to assist someone, or support support a cause. People generally, and the younger ones in particular, seems drawn to me, which is not always the case in an environment characterised by generation gap, and individualism. Ifeel young when talking to or interacting with the youth. And the general impression
is that I am a jolly good fellow, always friendly and accomodating.
By far this is so. But as you rightly referred to in your introductory note, Celes, there is always another side to the coin, which may be altogether different.. Its like the joker, who makes everybody laugh, but his own life may have a sad story to tell. The difference however is that he takes his life to be part of his destiny ,but is determined to strive unto the last to improve his lot.And the medium? the stage and his jokes. The feeling that his capacity to make others laugh is a God given boon and goes to sleep with a sense of satisfaction that he has removed unhappiness, lassitude, a spirit of defeat from the mind of the public.
Positivity therefore has a negative side which serve as a scale to improve ones own capability to emanate positive impressions, thus removing inaction, dulness.
Why 7/10?It is because one is never perfect, and shoud not be. I have a problem, among others, which I feel, deep down me as a lack of confidence, which often delays in the execution of a job,and when it is at last done, a regret that I could have done it earlier.
That having been said ,in retirement now, having all the time to look back into mylife, family, social and personal, and professional I have reasons to feel a sense of satisfaction for having played a worthy role. This also means that there have been time when consciously or inadvertantly, I have failed to do justice where sound judgement required that I act differently. The first one provides me with room for improvement, while the second warrant astill deeper insight into the nature of man ,which is always so complex.

  29. I am 8/10 happy. I am at a place that I am enjoying peace in my life. I am happy to be here, to have the incredible great kids and grandchild in my life. To be able to enjoy them. Happy to be healthy and able to give. Very blessed.

  30. I think…8. I can find enjoyment in most of what I do – homework (it’s kind of fun ;)), GLB, etc. I didn’t rate myself a 10 because there are some annoying people surrounding me and I get quite negative with them (there’s this boy who’s one year older than me who keeps calling me bad stuff – but I’ve told my parents and teacher).

Also, I mentioned MOST of what I do. I have to start trying to treat Chinese better. :p Although I’ve gotten 95% for the mock test, and tomorrow there’s the Chinese test!!!

Day 1 Positive Thing – I hope celebrating my birthday and wishing (that I’ll get at least 450/500 this year for school :D) counts. I had such fun with my mother. :)
