21DJC Day 1 – What Would You Do If You Have 1 Million Dollars?

This is Day 1 of the 21-Day Journaling Challenge held in Nov 2011. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the challenge tasks.Empty book for journalingHi everyone! Welcome to Day 1 of the 21-Day Journaling Challenge aka 21DJC!First off, I’m blown away by your enthusiasm for the challenge. Many of you jumped on board upon the opening for sign ups three days ago. Some of you have experience journaling in the past, while the rest of you do not journal but are keen to give it a shot. We now have an amazing 428 official, registered participants and it’s increasing as we speak! For the 428 of you who have registered, I want you to give yourself a pat on your back. Because you have put your name up for the challenge, you have sent out the intention to the universe that you want to grow. And trust me — it’s going to happen in this 21-day journaling challenge. As long as you commit yourself to journaling the assigned questions every day, you WILL grow — in your consciousness, in self-awareness, and in your connection with your inner self.

Read: 8 Tips To Excel in 21DJC

I’ve written a list of 8 Tips To Excel in 21DJC in the announcement post. Please make sure you read them and follow them to a tee to get the best out of the challenge.

Please Use Proper English

Because this is a journaling challenge and there will likely be long passages of text, I require the cooperation of everyone to follow Tip #6 in particular — which is on using proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar in your answers.I noticed some registrants using chat speak when signing up (e.g. “i did all d thing wid ney email id”) and some registrants using full caps (e.g. “I LOVE THIS IDEA AND I WOULD LIKE TO SIGN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE”). While it’s only a small handful of registrants, it’s enough to ruin the experience of the challenge for everyone. We’re doing this as a community, so let’s be considerate to everyone who will be reading our answers. Use capital letters if it’s the first letter of the sentence and small letters for the rest. Use proper English words that you’d find in a dictionary, not chat speak. Punctuate accordingly: use commas and semicolons where necessary and avoid run-on sentences. Do a quick scan to make sure your spelling is right before you post your answers. Let’s make this a positive experience for everyone taking part!(For participants who do not comply with #6, I’m afraid I’d have to remove your posts for the benefit of the community. I seek your understanding on this. Thank you!)With that said, let’s now move to our first question, shall we? ;)

21DJC Day 1

Today’s question is a simple, age-old, yet powerful question:

What Would You Do If You Have 1 Million Dollars?

Money notesSeriously — what would you do? Would you save them in a bank? Would you use them to buy stocks? Would you share them with other people? Would you invest the money in your business? Would you give them away to charity? Would you quit what you’re doing and start a whole new life? What would you do with your million dollars?(Today’s question can be found in #45 of 101 Important Questions To Ask Yourself In Life.)

Your Task Today:

  1. Reflect and answer today’s question. Like I mentioned in Tip #4 of 8 Tips To Excel in 21DJC, there’s no word limit – whether minimum or maximum. Write as few or as many words as you want. It’s all up to what you want to express!
  2. Share your answer. After you are done writing, copy and paste your answer in the comments area and post it there.
  3. Check out other participants’ answers. Other participants will be sharing their answers too, so feel free to read and reply to their answers. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days.
Look forward to reading all your answers! :D

  1. well honestly If I had 1 million dollars there are so many things to do . first I will give a big part to my mother so she can do what she wants because I know she have a lot to do but she’s giving priority to me and my sister. Then another part to my father he surely deserve because he’s been giving us a lot too, and of course I’ll give some to my sister so she can do something because she’s jobless now.
And then it’s my turn :D I would do many many things I will buy a nice car and so many clothes( that’s something I can’t resist if I had a lot of money), I will travel to different places…
And I’ll not forget poor people some of my money will be for charity.
The rest I will save it in the bank for the future until I finish my studies .

  2. If I have a million dollars, I would:

    – Pay up my mortgage loan
    – Renovate my house
    – Give my family members a sum of money
    – Buy a car ( cheap & practical one)
    – Donate 5% to local charities
    – Build a school/ transit house/ children’s home in Cambodia
    – Invest in property to generate passive income for the future
    – Continue working

  3. What would I do with one million dollars you ask? Well, let me tell you! To start off I would call up my three closest friends and tell them that they have to take a leave of absence from work or school (whatever they’re up to at that point in time) and tell them that were going on a trip around the world…all expenses on me! My goal in life is to travel, and who best to share that with than my best friends! This is what I would choose to do with my money because I want to experience the world we live in to the fullest and we will do that through travel! We would spend a few weeks in every country we visit, and more time in the places we are dying to explore of course! But to cut costs we would definitely still travel as cheap as possible by couch surfing, and making use of hostels and host families. No hotel suites or private jets. While visiting these beautiful and breathtaking destinations, we would indulge in the wide variety of food and beverage that the countries have to offer! Ireland’s beer, Costa Rica’s coffee, New Zealand’s lamb, Japan’s sushi…I could go on and on, but you get the idea. You can’t travel around the world without taking part in the different cultures and what they have to offer! I am studying Anthropology and International Development in university at the moment, so my goal during this one million dollar trip would be to look in-depth at the cultures that come my way during this trip of a lifetime! Along with exploring the cultures, we would volunteer and help the people and places that are in need throughout the world. When this amazing trip comes to an end, I will write a book about all that we experienced, so people around the world can read about our amazing adventures and be inspired to learn more about the people and cultures in this beautiful world we live in! Get ready world, here we come!

Why 3 friends? I am guessing that you already have them in mind.
If you took only 1 friend you could stay traveling twice as long, this is why I ask.

      • I couldn’t just pick one of them! They’re all amazing friends and I couldn’t leave any of them behind! I would want them to experience all that I get to experience in life no matter what! Even if that means travelling for a shorter amount of time!

  4. If I had 1 million dollars ~ this is what I will do:

    1) visit for at least 3-6 months to a few countries with my family and this includes cruising over Alaska, Greenland, Iceland and Northern Europe

    2) go on a solo adventure for at least 6 months to 1 year and try all new experiences in those countries

    3) take 1 year off to pursue mathematics or any other degree in foreign university

    4) take 1 year off to volunteer in foreign countries

*1 year is enough as I do not want to live off my 1 million dollars without generating income in return*

    5) invest in some properties in different locations and countries but not for own stay (yet!)

    6) invest in stocks and unit trusts to earn “passive” income and for old-age retirement (where money will never be a “headache” anymore)

    7) start up my food and culinary business (it doesn’t need to be extravagant. Something little and modest at a start….)

    8) buy a farm which is large enough to accomodate all my beloved pets (ie dogs) and strays where they can have fun anytime and a place to grow up well.

    9) hire maids to look after my dogs (while I am busy working) …….and my family, of course

    10) donate to needy (those who are really really helpless)

    11) establish a trust fund for my children

    12) give some money to my family

    13) buy a high brand of HI-FI sound system and all favourite CDs (one of my fave pastimes)

    14) renovate my current house to the vintage or victorian-styled

    15) refurbish my 1974 VW

    • Karman Warner 14 years ago

What type of culinary business are you desirous of? I love to cook but I would have to hire someone else to do all the cleaning. :)

      • Baking and desserts. I want to cook something I love to eat…..and of course, happy to see people loving it too! Oh yes, cleaning is not in my list though….

  5. Payoff my credit cards.
    Payoff my car loan.
    Payoff my mortgage.
Then travel around the world, first class, until the money ran out.

  6. Hello everybody. If i had 1 million Dollars, then first of all i will sleep for 48 hours because i have to digest it. Then i will buy my dream car and save some money in my fix deposits for future. Rest of the money i will give to my dad because he is one of the genious i have seen lively. He knows how to make money out of nothing and have so many things to do.

    • “first of all i will sleep for 48 hours because i have to digest it.”

I think that is a wonderfully smart thing to do. I was just sitting here thinking about how amazing and giddy I would feel if I got the news that I now had all this money. I’d want to go out and do everything that I never had the chance to do before. But, isn’t that how most people react? What about tomorrow? What about next week? Next year? We jump on good fortune so quickly don’t we? Unlike wealthy people who have a plan in place and save and scrimp to get to that million dollar mark slowly and surely, a burst of fortune leaves us with so many unanswered questions that we haven’t even given ourselves time to imagine.

  7. What would I do with one million dollars? I have thought about this often. When talking with friends about winning the lottery (which I admit, is something I *never* even play) I always say that I wouldn’t want to be one of those who win millions and millions and their entire life changes. I don’t want that for my children – I still want them to work hard, receive a good education and pick careers that make them happy. I want to continue to work for a living, because my work means something to me and I am happy doing it.

With my million dollars, I would pay off my mortgage (and any other small debts I have) and make several much-need improvements to my current home, or possibly upgrade to a reasonably priced home that has one more bedroom so my boys don’t need to share a room. I would then put aside three college accounts for my children, and the rest would go into savings. I wouldn’t change my job and I would continue with my studies – still working on my bachelor’s degree, better late than never!

I would have two splurges – one trip to Universal FL with the kids to visit the Harry Potter world there, and then another to London to see Les Miserables, my fav
    orite broadway show.

    • Why would you or your children still want to work? I think we work only to make money.
Also I think you must be one of the very few people in the world who likes his/her job.

      • Karman Warner 14 years ago

I disagree, I think we do not only work to make money. I do believe that is the main purpose, but I know that when I was working my personal self-esteem was much improved. I have found since I lost my job that getting up in the morning is often a pointless venture. I would still continue my education as well as advancement into Master’s and PhD potentially.
I would want my children to work as well, giving them that fulfillment feeling.
        Just my thoughts.

  8. One million dollars would certainly ease some financial stress. If I won a million dollars I would first pay some bills. I would pay off my mortgage and pay off my daughter’s student loans and my son’s student loans. I would then set aside some money for the other son to go back to school if he wished. I would want to give some money to charity aiming for 10%. Unfortunately a million dollars doesn’t stretch as far as it once did. With the rest I’d put it into some kind of investment fund for retirement. I’d keep working and keep living in much the same style I do now. No new cars or furniture or TVs. I’d probably allow myself one little splurdge like a trip to see the grandbaby. I don’t like being so selfish and spending most of it on myself and my family, but if financial burdens were eased it would give me the time and energy to do more for my community.

  9. If I suddenly had a million dollars in my hands, there would probably not be too many immediate changes.

The first thing I would do is to put away a chunk towards paying for graduate school in interpretation. The second thing would be to be buy presents for my parents, who through love have sacraficed a lot to give me the life I have today.

The rest of the money would go into some sort of savings. It would be used to slowly support me (and my family if needed) so I can go do what I always wanted to do, work with languages and give back, without worrying about finances.

My dad speaks four languages, and in the city I grew up, immigrants are a plenty and many are not so fortunate. I have always admired his ability to communicate and help others communicate. Then at the end of high school, a seed was placed in me without me ever knowing- because of a presentation I saw one day in an after school program. As the years went by, I realized that information, important medical in particular, is discriminately available- there are languages of the privledged and langauges of the oppressed- and one of my life goals is to do my part in stopping that, and make sure that every person, regardless of who they are, has access to information that though mundane to one person, can affect another person for the rest of their lives. So whether this is through charity, volunteer work, or even starting a small organization dedicated to this goal, a majority of the million dollars would probably go to allowing me to get right to it.

I realized a year or two back that many of the things I dreamed about in my future do not matter so much- well, the material things anyways. I still think about that nice house, with a pool, wonderful garden, and rooms adapted to my every whim. I still love buying clothes and quality electronics. However, to truly satisfy those lofty dreams would require an inordinate amount of money, or even a bottomless well. And perhaps one day I will have that money, but I realized that if I were that capable, I would rather spend it elsewhere. A yellow lamborghini would be nice, but using that money knowing it was bringing happiness into other lives would be so much nicer.

    • Karman Warner 14 years ago

Your business idea sounds terrific. With all the technology we have today it is sad that information is not more readily accessible to everyone. Your business could be run as a non-profit so that information would be more readily available to everyone of any language.
I wish for you success in your business venture.
My hat is off to your Dad for speaking four languages. WoW.

  10. 1 million dollars? Would like to stop work and travel but know that the money would soon run out. Probably need to invest 80% of the money wisely so that it can generate income for me while I spend the 20% to travel and also upgrade myself. Only after I have settled my affairs can I then use the investment returns to help others. I think I would really like to travel and meet like-minded people to help others to make the world a better place for all. No concrete plans but thoughts at the moment. :D

  11. If I had $1 Million I would give 10% off the top to my church. While I understand not everyone is religious or believes the same – tithing is something I feel strongly about.

With the remaining 90% I would do the following.

    * Pay off our mortgage, car note and medical bills. I would also set money aside for future medical bills.

    * Set aside at least a years worth of living expenses, so my hubby could take at least a year off work – stress free.

    * Make many needed repairs to our home including a new roof, gutters, carpets etc..

    * Set aside money for each of my kids to use for college or a house when they grow up.

    * Family vacation to visit Disney World in Florida while my kids are still young.

    * Help out my immediate family. I would love to help my parents, brother, sister and in-laws with some of their bills like paying off a car note, home equity loan or medical bills.

    * Donate to my favorite charities

    * Go on a shopping spree (I’ve never been able to go into a store and buy whatever I want and would love to)

    * Save a large chunk for the future/create a rainy day fund.

Basically with $1 Million I would use the money to help make my family’s future a little easier and have a little bit of fun too.

  12. If I had 1 million dollars, the first thing I would do is book a week long trip to the Bahamas, Fiji, Caribbean Islands, etc for myself, my boyfriend, my sister, my aunt, and my grandma. It wouldn’t matter which one of those tropical islands we chose and agreed upon because I would be extremely happy with any one of them.

    I would save $400,000.

I would buy my Grandma Adie a new house in a better neighborhood, and I would pay for my mom to go to rehab and set her up in a beautiful spacious apartment in return for her sobriety.

I would use the money to finish college and finally get that bachelor’s degree I’ve been pursuing.

I would buy my little sister a brand new car that’s great on gas so she could finally get to drive further than 15 minutes without having to fill up her tank, and then I would put her through college.

I would go on a $1,000-$2,000 shopping spree.

I would knock out all the plaster walls in my house and have the entire thing sheetrocked and the electrical and foundation all redone for a complete home update. Maybe even throw in some brand new double pane windows. I would also put a lawn and a new deck in my backyard.

Whatever was left over, I would donate to the local shelter dog rescue facilities to help them increase the number of dogs they are able to afford to save each time they go to the pound to select more dogs

My first thought ist, to keep on as usual and find me a good house, some good holidays and give a certain amount of money to my family and to KIVA. Staying comfortable with what I know, because i´m quite happy today.

Second thought is, to quit my job for one year and go travelling around the world to experience different cultures and people. I enjoy travelling again since 2 years (after my divorce) just like after finishing school, when I travelled around a lot and without expectations and limits.

Third thought is, to get more in line with what I want to do with my life. I want to become an alternative practitioner psychotherapist. My training will start tomorrow evening. But with one million dollars, I can do some trainings abroad in addition. I can learn a lot more than only in school.

With this power of my thirsd thoughts, I can live my dream, work from home office and raise a little family with all my love and without any stress. My goal is having a real loving family and children.

It´s not money that I want. It never was.
I would give one million dollars away for my dream of motherhood will come true.

  14. The first thing I would do is say a prayer. I would want to thank God for giving me such a great blessing and challenge. I would ask for the wisdom to make sound decisions; for the discipline to avoid making the mistakes I’ve made in the past with money; and for the strength I will need to be not only generous towards others, but not too skeptical as well.

At first, this may seem like a lot of money, but now a days it doesn’t last long. So, after my takes, I would take 10% and give it to charities that I feel are worthy of help. I would take 25% and set it aside for spending and paying off my debts. The rest of the money I would invest and save for the future and my children’s education.

  16. What would i do if i had a million dollars. I never really put that much thought into it before. Maybe I’m one of those people so used to there current financial status I wouldn’t know how to use a million dollars. That i find kinda sad because it might mean i’d waste it on random stuff, not that that wouldn’t be fun i just want to be more productive with my money. Finishing up a seasonal job i started seeing money differently and it has helped seeing that with whatever money i could on a few creature comforts, a few games, some clothes maybe a night out eating with friends or just doing something for the family.

I realize just because I get a million dollars doesn’t mean i have to super size everything i do. I try to be a man of simple features and perhaps as long as i can do something to indulge on it I wouldn’t mind not having to use all that money.

For starters I’d probably take care of a few things for the family such as a nice place to live, perhaps by the ocean (i’m glad i live on the pacific coast) take care of a few costs, credit cards and the like, maybe treat the family with a few gifts and luxuries. Granted i can see my mom and brother asking me since i would have deep pockets but i’ve learned to be sensible with money after having a job.

Afterwards i’d probably donate to a charity though sounds a bit sweet and vague if you ask me so i’ll specify. Considering there are so many charities going on it would be pretty good to help one or two. of course i’d have to do my homework so i don’t find myself in an awkward situation. They say a million dollars goes quick so I’d like to get my money’s worth and hopefully learn a thing or two from the experience ;)

  17. If I had a million dollars, I would quit my job and start my own business as an artist and photographer. I would move out west to British Columbia with my husband and we would buy a house on the outskirts of town (something we have been wanting to do for a while now). I would build my own art studio and open a gallery to sell my work.

I would pay for my husband to go to college/ university so he could finally achieve the career of his dreams, and I would make sure he had a garage where he could enjoy working on his car.

I would put a large portion of our money into a savings account of some sort, and we would both help out our families as well, who could all use a little financial help at this point in time.

I would also buy a piano and a horse. I’d buy my husband his 72″ big screen TV that he’s always dreamed of, and we’d go on that trip to Hawaii that we wanted to do for our honeymoon but couldn’t afford at the time.

Most of all, it would be wonderful to be able to achieve the things we have been putting off – our own house, career education, family security – due to our current financial situation. We are saving for each of these things down the road, but having a million dollars right at this moment would give us the chance to have it all and not have to worry about money as much as we do now.

  18. I would open a non profit schol of the arts. The participants those who have been mistreated, low self esteem. I would allow them to show there creative sides while discovering their talents. The school is to help put the broken back togrether and teach them healty lifestyles. When people see the value of themselves and the talents they have no one can take tha away from them.
I would also open a beauty shop ; I would have pic all over the walls of past and present hair styles. It will have a spa, music thoght provoking disscussions. Its the place to come to be refreshed on the inside and enhanced on the out.

    • I like the concept Carol! Hope you make it happen. I’m sure it will lighten the load and lift spirits for many. Good luck!

If I had 1 Million Dollars I would buy a house that is big enough for me and my three adult children and their families to live together but with enough space to feel independent. I would customize it to allow for family dinners where all of us can cook together and eat together and share time together as a family; supporting each other in day to day life like child care and carpooling and pure love.

I would also go back to college to finish my bachelor’s degree and go on for my MBA. I would also build a gym in this new home so that I could start to take better care of my health.

It is funny that this is the first challenge question as my children and I all talk about this often, all stating the same response of the great big home built for four families, a homestead.

    • Good luck with your homestead — that is a fantastic idea!

    • Ninschubur 14 years ago

Wonderful idea! Big loving family is the greatest gilft in the world!

  20. Have considered this many times and I would use a small amount to clear off all my debt and obligations. The remainder I would invest so that i could have constant reliable income. With that income I would resign from my current work, and run a startup for 12 months time to create a new software product. If its good then I would sell the business and use that money for charity. if not good then would close it down. And then would go volunteer for a charity using my investment income to sustain my life so that my activities would not cost the charity anything. So either way I would end up becoming fulltime volunteer for charity – its merely a 12 month gap from $1m until starting, and that gap and the $1m safety fund gives me time to try and create something worth a lot more than $1m. In my will I would disperse the remaining funds to my children, loved ones, and to charity.

  21. First I would settle all my debts. Luckily I do not have much, but I do have some, as part of
living in this society. It sends a good and lasting message about making sure to settle
ones limitations. Secondly, I would assist to settle the debts of my family.
For years I have been listening to the hardships of my family.
It would be nice to help them out more than just the gift of listening, since sometimes
listening without the intent of response can be enough, as it helps my conversation
companion to just vent and formulate a plan for himself/herself and he/she feels
enabled to solve their own problems. Now, $1million does not go very far these days, so it would
be an interesting challenge to share this among my family members who are in terrible
debt without causing new rifts. But I do feel it would be a gift to give back to my base. Finally
with any left over money, I would indeed send it to a charity that really is doing something for this world,
that for enabling education in the poorest of places. I feel that if we were to expand and augment
the human capacity for knowledge to solve our problems, primarily where it has been ignored or
abandoned due to cultural, historical, political, etc. reasons., we can learn to better equip our species
for the future on this planet, our only currently, and very fragile home.

  22. If I had a million dollars I would pay off my student loan, pay off my parents’ mortgage, buy heaps of kickass Doc Martens, distribute bottles of the finest whiskey to the homeless men who set up their blue tarps beside the river near my apartment, take flying lessons, buy only organic vegetables, take a year off work so I could travel, perhaps volunteering at something physical (building houses, cleaning up Tohoku) or perhaps just getting into selfish adventures and meeting beatnik sages, eat raspberries every day, and buy my brothers plane tickets so they could come visit me.

I’m pretty horrible with Math so I’m not sure if a million would cover that, but if it did, grand, if not, I’d ditch the flying lessons, and if there was more left over, I’d go to a certain dentist’s office and pay off the outstanding bill of any terrified and broke university student in the waiting room who had just been told how much their emergency dental work cost, which is the horrendous position I found myself in a few years ago.

  23. If I had 1 Million Dollars – I would give 10% to my church. I would help certain family members to become debt free. Followed by mandatory education on financial planning and education on living below their means. I would invest for retirement and spend the rest of life in service to others.

  24. @ Tarun K Soni, putting some of the money on waste management is an amazing idea. I believe soon enough we will have some pertinent issues because of the massive waste we produce.

  25. If I had 1 Million Dollars, I´d use to travel to the places i´ve always wanted to visit like Paris, London, Madrid, New York, Texas, Hawaiian islands, and other places. I´d love to see the Eiffel tower and the Grand Canyon, those are my top must-see before i die.
I´d buy a piano and get lessons on how to play it, I’d love to be able to compose music.
I´d buy land, far away from the city, and start building a house slowly, with a garden and among other things, like a skate park or horses :D
I´d save part of it, and spend the other part of it on special and important things for me and my family, like an amazing camera, and carry on my vintage jewelry collection.
I’d use some of it to fuel my sewing passion and take my family on amazing vacations.
And finally, I´d explore ways of making more of it.

    • I love that travel is first on your list! And those are all great places to start with!

  26. Its for sure, one day I will have 1 Million Dollars in my bank account. I will earn it through hard work.

The day I achieve the 1 Million Dollar mark, will be one of the greatest day of my life.

Lets say, if I have 1 Million Dollars today, then on the very first I will share 20% of the amount with my parents. Although they don’t need it but still I would like to share it with them…because it is only because of them I’m alive and its my duty to share with them whatever I EARN. :)

1 Million Dollars could do a lot of good in my life. I will not buy a new flat or a new car but will purchase a commercial premises and open a Designing Studio. Will hire qualified and experienced designers who can work with me and produce quality stuff according to the need. I will aim at providing quality services to my clients. In all I will invest 30% of the amount in my business.

Another 25% will set aside for my family to fulfil their needs and dreams.

I will deposit 20% of this amount in bank as “fixed deposits” for retirement.

    Will donate 2% in charity.

And the rest 3%, I will spend on myself. Yes, I think 3% of 1 Million Dollars is enough to fulfil my personal NEEDS.

Will be more then happy to live my life as I always wanted to.

    Summary :

    • 20% : Will share with parents
    • 30% : Will Invest in Business
    • 25% : Set aside for family
    • 20% : For Retirement
    • 02% : In Charity
    • 03% : Spend on myself

    1 Million Dollars

If I have 1 million dollars, I have so many personal dreams to fulfills such as :
    1. I will make a beautiful and big dream home.
    2. World tour with my family.
    3. Good education for my son.
    4. I will try to give and each and every comfort to my parents, wife and son.

    but

I am not going to do all this instead :

I will establish a Non-profit trust which will promote education in India specially for the girls and I will also be doing some charity for mentally ill boys and girls. And my trust will also do to find out :

    1.Population Control in my country,India.
    2. Waste management.

I hope I will be able do some thing for the Society because I think if society will improve we will improve and if we will improve our Country will improve.

Thats all I can say if I have 1 million dollar.

    Thanks

    • Wow….establishing a non-profit trust for promoting education especially to girls in the country is just great idea. AlsoI liked the idea of population control and waste management. Hope one day your dreams come true. :)

  28. After giving this some consideration I think first thing I would do is buy my mother a new house and renovate my home. I would also buy myself a new car. Then I would invest in real estate I would purchase several properties in different locations to rent out and some to re-sell for a profit. I would also of course put some in the bank. I don’t know much about the stock market so i do not think that i would invest that way, but who knows. I would also donate some to the Red Cross (I think they do a wonderful job in times of crisis). I would also do some traveling and who knows maybe even start my own business. I say this now but who really knows what would happen if I had 1 million dollars. I do know one thing though, I would use the money wisely. I would make sure that whatever i did that the money was somehow making more money.

  29. 1 million dollar might be a lot of money in my first thought but it could run out in a short period of time if I squander it. With this money definitely will get rid of my financial doubts. I will invest in property and stock to make the money grow to be financial freedom in the future.

Learn courses to enhance my skill for my business and buy a car. Learn new things I like and invest in my personal development. For my family surely I will give it to my parents so they no need to work anymore and support my younger sister’s living. Give it to my family member to do what they want in a good way. Eat a big meal and travel with my family and best friends. Volunteering and backpacking.

Buy some useful gadgets, donate to charity, and sponsor children. Fix my house and may consider move to a new house. Learn music and buy a karaoke system. Pay off my debt. Lend to my best friends to start their business.

Not to use it in material satisfaction but to use it wisely, invest in meaningful things and living.

  30. Initially, the idea that came to mind was splitting it as far as possible between charity, investment, a holiday abroad, and doing something special for the people in my life (in particular my parents). Thinking about it more seriously, however, I realised I would probably 1) pay off my current student loan and save for the rest of my education, 2) buy my parents’ house/buy a holiday home within my own country but on the coast where everyone in my family could visit if and when they please, and 3) invest. A percentage of any money earned from investment would go to charity.
