Announcing: All-New “Videos” Micro-site!

Announcing: All-New Videos Micro-site!

Hello everyone! Following the success of our challenges micro-site that was only launched barely 4 months ago (we are currently doing a 21-Day Exercising Challenge for Feb – are you signed up yet?!?), today I’ll like to announce the launch of our micro-site for videos! :D From now on, you can access videos on personal excellence, made by yours truly, via http://personalexcellence.co/videos.

What will be available in the videos section? At the moment I envision it being an add-on to the main site, whereby I (a) share content which is best done in an interactive style over text – e.g., FAQs on a particular topic (b) create hands-on tutorials on anything related to helping us live a better life – e.g., creating a vision board, setting up an inspirational room. I’ll also include any ad-hoc videos (produced by others) that include me. I don’t plan to do any video interviews or cover any lifestyle topics for now – these I’m reserving for The Celes Show when I revive it in the future (whenever that is).

So anyway, since the section is new, there are only a few videos so far – namely the fasting FAQs, creating a vision…

Happy Chinese New Year from the West Coast!

Happy Chinese New Year 2012!

It’s Sunday, Jan 22, as I’m writing this – which is the eve of Chinese New Year. I thought I’ll write a quick post to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year! ;)

This year is the year of the Dragon, which is a long-standing symbol of power, strength, and good luck in Chinese culture. The dragon is a highly revered creature to the Chinese, and for the same reason, many Chinese see it as highly auspicious to have children in this year.

Every Chinese New Year, it’s common to see the Lion Dance and Dragon Dance – which are choreographed performance by people in life-size puppets modeled as Lions and Dragons respectively. Some people mistake the Lion Dance as the Dragon Dance, where they are 2 separate things.

Below is a clip of a traditional Lion Dance (in Hong Kong):

…and here is a modern take of the Lion Dance (they used Tiger puppets instead of Lion ones because it was 2010, the year of the Tiger):

At the moment I’m in Los Angeles, and traveling over to San Francisco later today. I’ve heard a lot about the large Asian community…

PE Los Angeles Meet-Up (Jan 14, 2012) – Pictures and Afterthought!

LA Meet-Up, Group Shot

Our Los Angeles meet-up took place as planned on Jan 14, at Sage Organic Vegan Bistro. It was a HUGE BLAST – We had readers coming from LA itself, to Orange County, to Ventura County (both of which are counties in California), to all the way from Australia!!!! We met at 1:30pm, and hung out all the way till 4:30pm. Thank you to everyone for turning up! :D

Sage Organic Vegan Bistro
At Sage – A popular vegan restaurant in LA. Kind Kreme is the sister brand of Sage’s, which serves raw, gourmet, organic vegan desserts. Having both brands share the same shop space makes it easy to get all of one’s vegan fix under the same roof!

LA Meet-Up, Confirmed!! (This Saturday – Jan 14, 1:30pm)

Hollywood Walk of Fame at Los Angeles!

Thanks for your quick and spontaneous responses to the LA Meet-up, everyone! :D The meet-up has been confirmed, with details as follow:

  • Venue: Sage Organic Vegan Bistro, a popular vegan restaurant in LA (website)
  • Address: 1700 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 (Google Maps)
  • Date: 14 Jan, this Saturday
  • Time: 1pm 1:30pm* (Reservation made under my name, Celes, so just let them know you’re there for me when you reach)

*Note we will be having brunch / lunch via the items on their brunch menu. They will have juices/shakes plus desserts, so you can always have drinks/ice cream if you don’t want to have the mains.

Sage comes highly recommended via Happy Cow (an excellent directory for vegan/vegetarian eateries) and one of the readers of PE, so I’m quite excited to check out the restaurant myself. Cafe Gratitude is a really great vegan/raw vegan restaurant I went to on my first day here (in LA), but I didn’t choose it for our meet-up in the end as I wanted to try something new, and Sage seems highly promising – PLUS, it shares the same shop space as KindKreme,  a raw vegan gourmet ice cream…
