Hi!

I'd like to know what do you love or hate about your job. Write some kind of a list. I'd like to write the first one but my employment starts only on October 1th. :).

So.. what do you love / hate about your job?

what I love - building systems and improving the way people work

what I hate - "scope creep" or business people who do not have any idea how to manage projects/deadlines

i Love:
1) Dressing up for work
2) Brainstorm sessions
3) Developers Fish and Chips Club
4) Working with Balsamiq mockups
5) Being assigned to a new project, the fresh start gives a kick
6) To see the product take shape
7) the radio station just below the office where you can annoy the Jockey through see through glass
8) the free coffee/drinks anytime
9) A peek at what other teams are working on

I dislike:
1) Long meetings where everyone just repeats the problem in their own version
2) When the same working program doesn't on other machine
3) situations like when clients say " Is that possible for text size to be bigger? " yes just font size from 11 to 12 but they add "Is that possible?", Then they say " We want this to work with facebook" now this one requires "is it possible?"
4) Discussions with Business Analysts
5) When people just pretend that they know
6) Team Leaders who do not know strengths of their team players

Overall I enjoy my work- But find that my chosen career is far more fulfilling. Often times a career and work/job are not the same. I have chosen to be an author as my career. Sure their are bad days when it comes to writing but I know eventually I will succeed. And I have taken into account that the publishing business can be difficult to navigate. But none of it matters because that is what I have chosen as my career. It's what I love and one day it will be full-time.
On the other hand I have a job that doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy. It is in the construction field and is something I was kinda forced into. I don't regret spending 5 years going through the apprenticeship because I did learn an amazing craft that will travel anywhere in the world. One which I could fall back on when ever I need to. But construction is a political nightmare. On the job politics are ridiculous. Rumors and lies are constantly flying around about this person or that person. And at the end of the day all it is; is distracting. Then to top things off you have to take into account the amount of pressure your putting on your body. I am currently 25 and feel more like I'm 30. Each and every day you go onto a construction site is a risk. Everyone always says "I won't get hurt," but most people don't realize its the other idiots you have to watch out for. In reality I can't wait till I can give it up for good. Mind you; I haven't worked in about 11months due to the economic crisis.

Life Hacking isn't philosophy; it's a way of life.

I do technical support for a computer manufacturer. I like helping people who are absolutely clueless about using computers. They are very often amazed a problem could be fixed and extremely grateful for the help. Just today I helped an older gentleman restore his internet bookmarks and retrieve some photos from his camera. He thanked me profusely and told me he would say a prayer for me in church.

I am a freshman in high-school. I recognize that what I am doing today will have large impacts on whatever I decide to do in the future. I love being social with my friends, getting work done and working on completing my goals (and being able to live through passions).

What I love about my work

1. I'm good at it.
2. It doesn't feel like work.
3. My clients are appreciative and are very kind.
4. I get to be with my kids while I'm working.
5. I dictate my own schedule.

What I hate about it:

1. Working for the corporate world is not fulfilling. I want to apply my skills to improve other people's lives and not because the company wants to sell or to get other people to buy stuff that I know will not make them happy.
2. The pressure of deadlines although I do my best work when pressed for time.

The whole universe conspires to give you the best life.

I like:

1. My coworkers. I consider them my friends.
2. My space
3. The location
4. The work itself contributes to medical progression and understanding, so it helps save lives
5. My flexible hours
6. Pays well
7. The majority of our clients are intelligent and respectful

I dislike:

1. The main thing I dislike is some of the inefficiency in the company, but we're working to improve that.

I hate walking into my office everyday. There are three women including myself in that room and I sit between the two of them. They both hate each other and I am caught in the middle. The negativity in there you can cut with a knife. This has been going on for six life-sucking years.

What I love about my job is the flexibility it gives me and the excellent benefits. And the end of year bonuses. And I do actually enjoy the work. That is the only reason I stay.

I've been in a similar situation with two men not getting along. I quickly learned to take advantage of the situation. Since these two were highly predictable & I was going to have to listen to them bicker all day anyways...I figured I'd have fun with it.
I began coming into work and feeding them both a topic of "discussion" for the day. Since most of their arguments were about politics I'd just stir the pot with the topic of the day then let the two of them be completely miserable. It was quite interesting how passionate they were with their own point of view & never realized that they could agree to disagree & just leave it at that.
After a short while, I told them what I was doing & they seemed to realize how toxic they had become & slowly changed their ways.
By recognizing & having to deal with negative people, I've learned to appreciate them for their predictability. They start out the workday the same every day & they haven't failed me yet.
Don't get drawn into their negativity, instead, just keep reading & listening to the positive things daily to keep you on the right track.

Take Care,
~D

Right now I am a soon to be student so this is not my permanent job, but I work as a Servers Assistant at a restaurant. As you probably have guessed, dealing with customers at restaurants can be extremely frustrating but all the while at the same time extremely fulfilling and fun.

Things I love about my job:
1. The fast paced environment (Most of the time)
2. The awesome staff members I work with (THE TEAM!)
3. Depending on the day it seems like easy money!
4. Talking to customers (that are nice) can be interesting as well as fulfilling, and knowing
that not everyone is grumpy out there in the big ol' world!

Things I dislike about my job:
1. The Chef, apart from him I like everyone else....he has major temper issues...and I believe it comes with the job :P.
2. Dealing with tough/rude/stuck up customers....sometimes I wish I could just throw something at some people. For the love of pete, you are at a ski resort your are MOST LIKELY on vacation...why do you have to be so rude!?
3. Being a server assistant I get a lot of stuff piled on at once, sometimes people dont realize that I am in the middle of something and give me yet another duty to perform. This is part of the job although sometimes it gets out of hand, I always try to remind the staff that if I am busy...I cant always do your bidding!
4. People that think the damn world revolves around them, seriously....get a grip, dont keep asking mundane stupid questions and expect a decent response and/or action.

I try to love the job I do for the moment (Honestly!) and as always there are always downsides to any job...I try to look on the bright side of things :D

I saw a video on Gary Vaynerchuk and he said something very profound related to jobs. He said that in this day and age of 2011, there's no reason why any of us should have to dread waking up on Monday mornings to do something we don't like to do. So this suggests that if there are things we hate about our jobs, there's no reason why we can't find the power within ourselves to make the steps to move into something else where the number of things we hate about our careers is drastically diminished.
