I participated in an interspiritual meditation course shortly after I began my one year sabbitical in 2010. We explored different aspects of meditation as well as how meditation is use spiritually in various faiths. The purpose being to find options and skills in our daily meditation practice. My meditation focus will center around compassion and love and how to remain compassionate in challenging situations. Also what do we have to give up or release in order to maintain compassion toward ourselves and others which brings me to my ultimate challenge - pride. My secondary purpose is to quiet the mind and bring more focus to my daily life and my writing and community projects. Pride is cousin if not sister to the ego and I plan to seek out the building blocks of this false god and lay the walls down. I live near the beach and I will meditate in the morning between five and six am. A one hour meditation will be my goal. I am looking forward to this challenge and a way back to a daily meditation practice:)

Returning to a meditation practice immediately began to calm my mind chatter and brought inner peace. After a one hour meditation, I began Saturday more peaceful and with tremendous joy. I extended the olive branch to someone I had dismiss prematurely because we both wanted different things from the relationship. I realize this was my ego and pride guiding my decision and I really missed him. So reigning in the 'all or nothing' card, I love to play; we are back on track. I later attend a film essay - 'The Forgotten Space' directed by Noel Burch and Allen Sekula about globalization and the sea and its impact on human life. Sunday, I focused my meditation on surrender and people dehumanized by the impact of the quest for profit and technological advances. I plan to use meditation as a way to raise the level of consciousness beyond myself. The return has been phenomenal.
