Day 28 afternoon

Just back from the gym - did 250 kcal workout. Would have liked to do more but first exercise was treadmill which rubbed a blister after 20 mins. Next time will try advance blister plaster tactics...

Time for a retrospective!
Weekly:
Exercise - 6/10 - did bare minimum this week (about 4km walk per day, except one day where I was at home ill) & no floor exercises since I had nasty gastroenteritis bug. Originally I thought the pain from the bug was simply my stomach exercises causing a persistent ache! After 3 days I realised it wasn't!
Food - 8/10 - partly due to being ill, I haven't eaten all that much this week. I didn't drink hot chocolate at work, instead having lemon & ginger tea. And I didn't feel hungry at work either.

It was the over-eating that has been sabotaging my health challenge to date so I consider this week an overall success:

7/10

Monthly retrospective:
Exercise - 7/10 - have really made an effort with exercise in the last 4 weeks, upping my daily walking to at least 4km and going beyond that frequently. Have noticed change in body due to being slimmer & muscles starting to emerge in my tummy, thighs & even upper arms.
Food - mostly 5/10 but finishing 6/10 - have really struggled to get eating under control. However I have been more disciplined in the last week and I intend for this to continue. I have lost a small amount of weight overall, but am now fitting into clothes a size smaller, which makes me feel a lot happier!

Overall: 6/10 could do better but tending to positive :)

Day 29/Day 1 Round 2

Morning weigh-in: 60.0kg
* This is 1kg less than when I first started the challenge a month ago
* I have lost 9% of my body weight since 1/1/12
* It's not all weight loss, I've gained muscle too
* My BMI is currently around 22.7, on 1/1/12 it was 25.0
* Dropped a dress size in Round 1
* Dropped 2 or 3 dress sizes since 1/1/12

Objectives for the next week:
* To keep to a healthy eating pattern even when away visiting friends/relatives for 2 days this week
* To make at least 2 gym trips
* On work days, to get up earlier and ensure I get off the tube 2 stops early
* To bring in pre-prepared meal to work on at least one occasion

Objectives for Round 2:
* To run 5k without a break
* To develop a 5-min and 10-min floor exercise routine
* To do daily leg stretches
* To consistently walk at least 4km every day
* To attain a healthy eating routine

I'd really like to drop another 3 or 4lbs / 1.5kg during this time but I'm not incorporating that into my objectives.

Thank you Kimberly! I was feeling disheartened after about 2 weeks not having seemed to get anywhere, but things have picked up since then!

R2 Day1 pm

Just back from gym - did 250 kcal workout (all on crosstrainer - have rubbed blister on foot from running yesterday so will have to give it some recovery time)

Pre-gym I went for a 4 or 5km walk this afternoon.

After drinking a hot chocolate this morning, I've realised this drink really is upsetting my teeth so it looks like I'm going to have to quit the habit. I also plan to investigate getting a fluoride-strengthened mouthwash for work that I can use after lunch. This may also help reduce the urge to snack, but it's primarily intended to help my teeth.

My partner has agreed that I can have 2 weekday evenings where I go to the gym & don't eat with him, so that's another positive once I get into that routine (this week is disrupted due to trip away).

R2 Day 2

Walked 5k today meeting my target of getting up early and getting off tube early. Was still at work in good time.

Didn't do floor exercises today. Body slightly achey after 2 days of pounding the gym.

Weight staying consistent for the moment (last time I wrote that it jumped up so hoping no jinx this time) both early morning & last thing at night weigh-ins are over 1kg down on 2 weeks ago and both below 61kg.

Didn't really snack at work - had small banana in late afternoon but I think that counts as 'good'. No hot chocolate all day.

Next 2 days must focus on eating healthily while away.

R2 Day 3

Have achieved plan today to be careful what I eat.

Am especially proud of the long break between lunch (2 small bread rolls at 12.30) and dinner (at 8.30) with only water inbetween but I didn't feel particularly hungry.

Haven't measured how far I've walked today as it's a different city but am sure I've met my 4km daily target.

Tomorrow I need to consolidate my regulated eating by not bingeing during the day (it's 2 days off work so pattern-disrupting). Haven't yet figured out where dinner is coming from which isn't ideal. Guess I may have to grab something from the train station but must ensure it's not unhealthy.

R2 Day 4 early am

Quick weigh-in record as I am away from home
9st 5.2 lbs (approx 131 lbs, 59.5kg and BMI 22.5)

As I have hit or been below my kg threshold (60kg) 3 times in the last few days I get a new treat :) yay. Not sure what that will be yet, I still haven't got something for the 61kg mark yet!

I think this is a great idea - giving yourself a reward for achieving a weight loss target. By the way, where are you right now, if you don't mind me asking? I just noticed you said you are in a different city.

Congrats on the success so far, you are doing awesome! :)

Hi Kimberley

Yeah it's nice to get a little something :) I make sure I hit the weight 3 times so it can't be attributed to a fluke :D one time I bought some head jewellery (a celtic circlet) that I wouldn't normally be able to justify purchasing!

At the moment I'm in Manchester, UK, to watch my brother graduate as a doctor :)

R2 Day 4 pm

Well, have managed to control eating today. I think the calorie intake probably equalled what an average woman would eat to maintain weight but then I don't want my body getting used to a reduced intake. I haven't snacked so that was again the main thing.

Now back to 'normal' routine - tomorrow I need to get up early to sort out my CV so I don't plan to do the extra morning walk.

Aw thanks for your sweet message Calae :) It's messages like yours that help keep me going in defiance of the massive peer pressure to eat!

R2 Day 6 am

Morning weigh-in: 59.6kg (~ 131 lbs, 9st 5)

Yesterday for some reason I felt extremely tired and drained and was unable to go to the gym. Unfortunately it impacted my eating too. I resisted the chocolate cake that was literally offered to me sliced on a plate under my nose at lunchtime. I resisted the tasty-looking bread on my desk. But when it came to 5pm and a work colleague brought in some mini-sized treats from the supermarket across the road, I caved and ate 3 of them.

Then in the evening, I made a large meal (maybe 700 kcals?) I could have had one less piri-piri-and-lemon burger but no I chose to have two!

At least it doesn't seem to have impacted this morning's weigh-in (I suppose one 'bad' day shouldn't) and I do believe it is good to have regular days where you eat a regular amount so you don't train your stomach to expect a diet amount. However, I just need to be conscious and not let it become a habit. I'm most annoyed that I ate something sweet and potentially reintroduced my cravings for sweet things... we'll see.

Quick retro on my goals/objectives for this past week:
* To keep to a healthy eating pattern even when away visiting friends/relatives for 2 days this week - hardest task, achieved!
* To make at least 2 gym trips (have made 1, today can be the 2nd, assuming I find the energy - still tired))
* On work days, to get up earlier and ensure I get off the tube 2 stops early - did this 1/3 days: one time I didn't as I was in a hurry to get in to submit my CV (I'm trying for a promotion), second time my foot was rubbing a blister from the shoes I was wearing and I was later than I'd like. Solution: wear more comfy shoes and get up earlier!
* To bring in pre-prepared meal to work on at least one occasion - did not achieve, due to not having resources at home. This transpired to be important as I was then constantly being tempted by the food I had lying around at work. Solution: ensure there is bread at home and obtain diet soup I can take into work.

Overall I'm pleased with my continuing weight loss. One more pound and I'll for sure have achieved my wedding weight!

Thanks Ish! All the best with your healthy eating routine :) Are you planning to do a journal too?

~~~
Well I'm trying to get myself back on course with my life and now I don't like reading every time I log in the title about my heartbreak as it's a constant reminder about something terrible.
So I hope nobody minds if I continue my progress in a more positively-titled journal where I can focus on the future! xx
