Hi all

I was not sure where to put this, so I figured this maybe the best place.

A mentor who has one?

This something I have just started to think about now and wondering if having one has made a difference in your life.

Does having a mentor make a difference?
How do you find one?
Would having one for the different areas in your life help?

I hope this is okay

Hi, Kirsten.

I found your inquiry interesting. Let me ask you this. Why do you want a mentor? What kind of difference do you want to make in your life? What qualities would you like in a mentor?

Are you trying to find something formal like a life coach or are you just searching for a new friend who may have more life experience than you?

Just trying to get more information so I best help!

Well I am not sure if I am looking for a mentor in particular. Honestly I know very little about what a mentor is or does but I think I maybe looking for a friend outside of my current circle. I do have a friend now that I talk with about running as we are at the same level. Matt, the more I think about the more I realise that I am still a lost in this regard concerning my improving process. I feel that my laziness and loss of determination is playing a big part in the decisions that I am making and not making. In simple terms I am just looking for a friend I can open up to and someone who encourage me and advise on different parts of life.

Well, I must go think about this more carefully.

Thanks for the reply

I hope this is okay

Honestly, anyone in life can be a 'mentor'. I found my best mentors just by stumbling upon them and having curiosity for what they believed in. I've learned a lot. You can learn from anyone. Just start observing.

Mentors are the fastest way to success in any area. I have had various mentors in my life for various areas although they were not always referred to as mentors. I had senior managers I looked up to and tried to emulate during my corporate career. I trained under former martial arts world champions before I ever became fortunate enough to become one myself.

I had speech mentors at Toastmasters who helped me put together my original motivational keynotes that became a foundation for a new career. I take various business coaching programs to move my own business up to higher levels.

So it can be a matter of retaining different people to act as mentors for different areas that you want to improve in.
