Got off to a great start with eating five small meals and drinking plenty of water. It's 5pm and I still haven't exercised yet but instead I have been busy de-cluttering my house. Got on a roll in our storage area and didn't want to stop. After today I will spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering because it make me feel good to do it.

Every New Years day my husband and I create a 2 year plan with four or five main topics/areas and then we drill down and create action steps and goals. We did that today and it really helps us focus on where we are headed, how we will get there and it ensures we are both on the same page. This year our topics are Financial, Health, Work, Recreation and Preparation for Possible Relocation. Then we take the most important/necessary steps and put them on a "to do" list that needs to be completed within 2 weeks. I love doing this and it sets the tone for the coming year.

Tomorrow I will start the gym.

Sounds like you had a Fabulous start! Way to go!!!! De-cluttering ones own space allows for a more even flow of energy and in turn makes you feel lighter and happier

I love your 2 year plan idea, it's always an excellent idea to have future plans to focus own. I do one as well, but it's just for 1 year.

All the best to you as you progress forward :D

Congrats on your great start! Feels good, doesn't it?!

I like your determination to take 15 minutes a day to de-clutter. That's a tip that I just might borrow! ;)

Good luck on your progress!

I wondered if I should include finances in my plan. I really need too, but I think I will save it for next year, when I just get the clutter out of my house!

Oops! I forgot to add in last night's posting that I really do like/like/like the name you've chosen: GirlontheGo. Super neat name!

I like the alliteration (girl/go), but also the determined "action" of the name!

It's great to see you and your husband working toward a common goal. Is he also doing this challenge with you?

I just did something similar with my wife. We spent a day just talking about our future, writing things down that are important to us and what we want to achieve. Great way to connect and get some clarity into what is important.

Girl on the Go, I'm still loving your name!

Anyway, how are things going for you? Today I was a bit more off-track than the first two days, but tomorrow will be so much better--I just know it. It's hard when I'm not "perfect" but I don't want to get overly down on myself and give up. That won't do me any good in the long run.

Hey, as I was checking in with most of our little group, I was just trying to share things that I'm learning. It's nothing big, but you might be interested:

I notice that you have "Newbie" on your profile. If you'd like to change it, I just learned how. Here's the instructions:

1) Near the TOP of almost any page you're on, you should see "Edit Settings." Click on it.
2) Next, on the left side of your computer screen (a little ways down), you should see "Edit Profile." Click on it.
3) On that page, you should see where it says "Custom Title." Everyone's default is NEWBIE until -you- change it--and this is where it gets changed.
4) You're not completely done until you scroll down to where it says "UPDATE PROFILE" and click that. Then you're done!

P.S. Did you know that our group (#4 G-H) is the smallest team on the forum? But despite our size, we have lots of supportive posts to one another! Yay! That's a success in itself! Keep it up!

Hang in there!
Susy

Day 2 was consumed by a migraine. I've been having them for a few weeks and had run out of medication. Picked up my prescription and starting to recover. I ate what I could yesterday but no exercise.

I'll see if I can catch up on the tasks as I move forward. Today is Day 3 and I'm feeling better and eating 5 small meals and did recumbant bike for 1 hour. I am currently in physical therapy for a neck & shoulder injury so I am not lifting weights for upper body right now. Instead I am doing squats and lunges and when I get to the gym, I will do leg machines and elliptical.

All in all I feel things are going well considering my limitations right now

Hang in there! You're clearly doing the best you can with the exercise :) Can I ask how you got the shoulder and neck injury?

HI Glenn!

I have fallen several times over the past 3 years due to balance & weakness problems from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). My neck was a fall down the stairs and my shoulder was injured in a clothing hanger mishap in my closet. LOL. Could've been a lot worse so I'm thankful for that.

I am careful and keep in the best shape that I can to avoid these sorts of things but every once in a while it happens.

Heading off to PT soon - will be back later today to get caught up here.

Hi there! You've been very active on our little team! I see lots of posts from you to everyone. :)

I just read about your neck/shoulder issues. Ouch. It seems like we all have something to deal with at times. That's great that you're working your lower body and getting those larger muscle groups exercised.

You've got a recumbent bike at home? I bought a home rowing machine last winter, but it was not a high quality machine and thus, I sold it. I didn't get the great workout from it that I experienced when I had used one at the gym. (I don't go to that particular gym any longer, but boy, did I love their rower!)

See you on here again soon,
Susy

Hi GG,

I can understand that must be difficult to deal with at times. Especially around stairs.

Anyway, I definitely like your confidence! I'm sure anything you do to improve your health will work in one way or another.

Hi there GG!
Just dropping by to check in on you. How are you doing?! Is your neck and shoulders feeling okay? After some physical therapy (especially if it was aggressive), I know it can create some issues.) It's now Day 7, can you believe it? The days are already speeding by and I'm already thinking I'm going to miss our little group after 21 days.

Hi Susy!
All is well here and yes the PT can be grueling and almost always causes increased pain for a while. I am doing well as far as food, water, exercise but I do lose track of time and forget to show up here every day. I made it to the gym today and used the elliptical and leg machines. I always feel so energized after a workout and have always loved working out. I was a runner for most of my life.
I agree this little group is encouraging and a great source of information/tips and suggestions and for me, it creates accountability so I am more likely to stay on track.

I so-ooo have to agree with what you said, GG, about feeling so energized after a workout!

Since this challenge began on 1/1, I've exercised every day (except one). This is way more than I've done in the past few years and it's feeling GREAT!

Hope all is going well for you!

I am really having trouble keeping up with this journal but updated for a few days below:

Days 1 - 6 Tasks Review:
I was spot on with drinking 8 glasses of water a day.
Shopping is simplified because we have organic fruits and veggies delivered to our home weekly. I eat mostly veggies because fruit bothers my stomach. I buy organic protein at Whole Foods once a week and other items such as hummus, oatmeal and brown rice in bulk. These make up a large portion of our diet. We don’t eat dairy or red meat or pork.

Past Week Review:
FITNESS:
I am satisfied with the amount of exercise I did this week but not the intensity. Next week I will start doing intervals on the recumbent bike:
DIET:
I ate 5 small meals a day all week and feel it has gotten me back on track to healthy eating. My meals consist of small amounts of protein, carb and fat. This first week I lost 2.3 pounds, which is nice since my belly has been bloated since Thanksgiving.

MY PERSONAL DHL GOALS: 8

Week 2 Action Plan:
I am just going to continue what I have been doing, for the most part. I have had to limit some activities due to shoulder injury and that remains the same going into week two.

DAY 8
I am keeping with my current non-impact exercises and have been consistent in doing them 5 days a week. Recumbent bike/PT band exercises/stretching--3 days and elliptical/weight machines--2 days.
I will be travelling soon and hope to find good gyms at hotels while I am away.

DAY 9
Trigger foods:
I LOVE Hershey’s milk chocolate nuggets! (the ones in the silver wrapper) When I buy these I know the entire bag will be gone in two days and I will be craving junk food for a week. I do this about once a year, not sure why.
Oh, and Doritos, which I lived on for years as a teenager. If I buy a bag of Doritos they won’t make it through the night. These don’t trigger me to eat other junk which is a blessing, I guess.
It’s easy enough for me to keep these out of the house so I just don’t buy them. It will be interesting to see my reaction if I start craving these at some point. I do any grocery shopping so the temptation is there. Hmmm, maybe I need to have a strategy in place for this. Any suggestions???

DAY 10
Didn’t do the calculation but during exercise I burn about 250 calories and I am eating healthy and losing weight so for now I am good. I had a personal trainer who did all of this for me and I am sure it’s around here somewhere.

DAY 11—DAY13
I will get caught up on these in the next couple of days.

I'm not even going to try to get fully caught up at this point.

I did go barefoot walking yesterday at the beach and that was a delight!

I have been uber-excellent at eating my five small meals a day. I'm pretty sure I've lost a little more weight but don't have a scale to check this week. I don't remember if I posted in my original goals but I had hoped to lose 5-6 pounds so I'll check when I get home. I had gained some weight from oodles of unconcious eating over the holidays.

Exercise has been hit or miss due to travel this week but I have been doing my PT exercises and stretching every day.

I feel great! Eating well and being more mindful is snowballing into other avenues of self-care for me and I am back to my usual "look good - feel good" mentality. It feels good to be in this space.
