Hi Stacey! glomp
I think that at least a seven day water fast 2-3 times a year would give amazing benefits to anybody's health! Also will make your skin nicer- it will help achieve that goal in your challenge ;)
I think since you are pretty slim then you should plan a 7-10 day fast. i really don't think there is a need for you to go longer, maybe in the future if you are curious about the benefits you can receive from a longer fast. I think longer fasts should be reserved for people who have alot of weight to lose, or can't gain weight (due to malabsorption issues) or have a serious health issue (ie cancer).
-Plan your fast around a time when you don't have alot going on... fatsing makes you think much better in my opinion so you can still get some stuff that require brain work done.
-Also, dont tell anyone, except your husband if you want to. I can gaurantee you that you will not get positive reactions.
-Dont worry about drinking tons of water, just drink when you are thristy. Make sure to stand up slowly (you dont want to faint and hit your head against something!)
That's all to it! IT is more a mental game during the first three days or so... but since you have fasted before it should be much easier:)
Breaking the fast is really important, I cant stress this enough. eating just fruits and veggies for every day you have fasted is the best way to ensure that you dont get sick and still keep the benefits of your fast.
If you do decide to fast, we will all be here cheering you on!

Lynette- your post is so sweet, thank you for your concern!! I will definately be careful and if I start to get any major symptoms (which I doubt will happen) such as fainting and heart palpitations I will of course listen to my body and stop. However my heart is telling me that right now is the perfect time to embark on this second fast... I just have a good feeling about it:) I understand that there is a negative idea when it comes to people fasting for weight loss... and I agree with that to an extent. I think that if you already have a good, healthy diet as a foundation and for sure are not going back to processed foods then fasting is great if you want to drop a few lbs quickly. For example Celes had already done multiple 21 day raw vegan trials and was a vegetarian prior to her fast. However for most people, this isnt the case so I agree, fasting should not be used as they are just going to go back to their old, toxic diets + binge. Weight loss is not the only benefit I hope to experience from this fast- I am hoping that my skin will improve, and I think that fsting is the only way for this to happen.:)

Day 2

Today was a great day! In the morning I worked out a 3 year plan/template for getting into medical school, I'm quite excited about it. Later on I went to the doc to get the splint off my nose... and it looks amazing!! So happy I chose to get the cosmetic aspect of the surgery :D
Had alot of hunger pangs in the morning but they went away when I drank more water and kept myself busy. Also, found out that tomorrow marks 120 days left of my summer challenge (I have this weird thing where I like to count down until the end of a target date, and when it happens to be a nice even number I get excited haha) so I am planning to put in full effort. Im going at a nice pace right now but I believe that I can still be doing more to make my goals by the end of these 4 months a reality.
Exercise: It was sooo beautiful out- I took a slow walk for ~20 mins outside and also sat by a small pond watching the ducks and listening to music, it was very relaxing.

For the rest of tonight I am going to get through a chapter of studying and then its off to bed!

You have inspired me and I think I may actually be able to get a fast in sometime in the beginning of August. I liked your response to Stacey; it was well thought out.

Also, walking and ducks sounds like a lovely way to spend part of your day.

Moira, I'm probably going to do one in late june/ aug, if you want we can plan a date for a short fast together :)

This morning I went to get some blood tests to finally figure out what is the problem with my anovulatory cycles. I completely forgot I had to do this when I planned the water fast. Anyhow, the nurse asked me if I had breakfast (haha) and I said no... she said she couldn't to the test until i had something to eat (due to low plasma glucose and low BP). So reluctantly I had to break my fast on the third day. I went across the street and grabbed some apples :)
I am starting the water fast again tomorrow and this time only going for 7 days.
Stacey also said she interested in starting a water fast tomorrow so she might decide to post her progress on here!

That sounds like a great plan, Hannah! I would be glad to set some dates anywhere around that time with you.

I think it is good that you and Stacey are going to do this fast together now though.

If there is a fast going on at that time I may crash it if nobody minds... assuming I can take the time from work that is! Hopefully I will be able to prepare myself by then.

Good luck to both of you on your fasts!

I try really hard not to fail. Sometimes this is unavoidable. If I do fail, at least I will learn something useful.

The more, the merrier, Izzy. I would be quite delighted if both you and Hannah (and anyone else who might be interested) would join me when I finally get to that.

I think I will want to do the full 21 days since I have never done that before, only dipped my toes in and it will be the first time I have available for that. I am not sure if I want to do end of June or beginning of August yet. But since it will be three weeks, that is pretty much a moot point, I guess.

Hey Moira, that sounds great!! Keep in mind that you need at least 3 days after the fast to rest. My experience with the first week post-fast was that I was very tired and continued to have alot of detox symptoms. So if you want to fast for 3 weeks then having light work for about a month is a good time frame.
I signed you up above!:)

That's great we're doing it together! I'd be happy to post my updates here, because I don't think it is such important an event to start a new thread. I might not even be able to go through all 7 days! However, I'll do my best. Good luck to both of us :)

Of course I've read everything! :) I have a subscription to all updates here. But now I fell like I remember nothing, maybe I'll go back to the fasting series soon. Thank you!
