Hey everyone! Welcome to Day 1 of 21DMC! :D

Before we begin, please ensure you have:
  1. Signed up for the challenge. I noticed quite a few members have created their meditation journals or posted their introduction threads, but have not signed up officially for 21DMC yet! Please visit the sign-up thread link and see if your name is in the list of official participants in the first post. If it isn't, follow the instructions on that post to sign up first.
  2. Read Day 0's Preparation Post - It contains your 21-day meditation progress chart, instructions on how to post your meditation journal in the forums, and 9 tips to succeed in your 21DMC journey.

21DMC Meditation Progress Chart

As an easy way to get everyone updated on each other's meditation progress, I have created a group chart which outlines everyone's meditation progress.

The chart will be updated every day when I post the daily group postings. I will mark a tick against participants' names who have completed their meditation for the day.

To ensure that your meditation for the day is counted, simply fall in to the daily group postings (i.e. this post you are reading now is Day 1's Group Posting) to update everyone whether you have completed your meditation for the day, how long you meditated for, etc - whatever details you wish to share.

Of course, continue to update all details in your daily meditation log too - that's your personal avenue to interact with the members in your group.

Let me know if anyone has any questions!

Share Your Meditation Experience For Day 1!

  1. Were you able to complete your meditation practice today? Why/Why not?
  2. If yes, how did your meditation go? What meditation did you do? Where did you meditate? How long did you meditate for?
  3. Anything you want to share about the meditation itself?
  4. Anything you have learned for yourself today? (whether related or non-related to meditation)

Look forward to reading your updates! :D

Hi everyone!

I managed to complete a 22 minutes 38 seconds guided meditation from Meditation Oasis in front of my computer.

Full details are at my journal - I sort of answered the questions without looking at them!

Here's my update.

Note -> The difference between the two links is that the second one brings you right to my update/post and the first brings you to the top of my whole thread

To other people who have not yet meditated - good luck!! :D

Oh, and for my evening meditation session, I'll also post a link on this thread to my journal, but if you prefer (and you want to see my update), you can just go to my journal straight instead of finding my post among numerous others.

Update!!
My evening meditation sessions (yup, sessions, I did 2) is up at my journal. I did 24 minutes 37 seconds in the evening, and for the day it adds up to a grand total of 47 minutes 15 seconds!! (round off 47 minutes)

Yes, I "attempted" 15 minutes of meditation in my room, sitting against a wall.

I tried to focus only on inhaling and exhaling, acknowledging random thoughts and *trying* to let them go and continue focusing on breaths. Not so easy!

One of the most important things to me that I've read is the value of not getting upset at yourself and the power to begin again. Realizing that Im getting off track, take a deep breath, and start over.

Im excited to see where this goes! Thank you again for putting so much work into setting up the challenge!

Were you able to complete your meditation practice today? Why/Why not?
yes
If yes, how did your meditation go? What meditation did you do? Where did you meditate? How long did you meditate for?
it went really super, i listened to soothing music while controlling my thought traffic, i meditated in possibly the most sacred and spiritual room in my house for about 25 mins
Anything you want to share about the meditation itself?
First day and after years of on and off meditation i really could control my thoughts and direct them to creative visualization and positive thoughts of the future
Anything you have learned for yourself today? (whether related or non-related to meditation)
I've learnt the true way forward is to let go of my with-holdings.....nothings gained by clinging into minute issues but a lot of burden is lost by just letting go......
Would post a more detailed thread later in the day

 Meditation is the acknowledgement with the inner self:heart:

Amazing job guys - Keep it up! :D Just updated the chart with those who have reported in for Day 1.

Any tips/pointers you'd like to share with the group? Feel free to share with the rest who have not started their Day 1 meditation yet!

Today I meditated to the Tara Brach linked in my journal (~5min) and then to another 10 minute guided mediation with her, for 15 minutes of meditation. I felt more calm and peaceful inside of myself. I felt like I was taking better care of myself. I felt a little sad that I had slipped so far away from that place.

And I feel grateful for the opportunity to join this journey with all of you, and the motivation to continue.

I did a 20 minute meditation today. I sat in my room and tried to focus on my breathing. I never realised how many thoughts go through your mind in such a short period of time, it´s kind of hard trying not to focus on one of them and just "watch" them go by, I think I have to work on this ;)

2. If yes, how did your meditation go? What meditation did you do? Where did you meditate? How long did you meditate for?

I meditated for three times.

In the first time I was doing the breath-watching meditation, I felt a little relaxed, which is why I did it for two more times. But I don't think the other two times I felt that, but I think I will again if I do it more.

In the second time I was just focusing on an object. I wasn't doing very good, I kept forgetting that I was supposed to observe my thoughts when they popped in my head.

And third time was a charm! I was doing better at focusing on the object and observed the thoughts better and let them pass by.

I think I meditated for a total time of 40 or 45 minutes. I kinda forgot if I did the extra five minutes. I know I said I will start small, but the relaxation I got was simply wonderful, which is why I continued for more time later :D

4. Anything you have learned for yourself today? (whether related or non-related to meditation)

I was at first listening to a guided meditation while I was meditating. And in the guided meditation, it kept repeating certain things like "Relax", "Wonderfully relaxed". I realized that I should do more transcendental meditation because repetition of these words really makes me feel a little like that.

Hello and congratulations on your feats guys :)

I completed my morning meditation, but it lasted for 15 minutes now, because i took some time with my Guru, i needed her presence and calmness and answers. I decided to take more time each morning in meditation simply being with my Guru and Be Present.
As for my afternoon meditation am about to do it now, it lasts for Half an hour.

Have a great day and beautiful adventures guys ! :)

1.Were you able to complete your meditation practice today? Why/Why not?
Yes

2.If yes, how did your meditation go? What meditation did you do? Where did you meditate? How long did you meditate for?
It went good. Zen mediation. In my living room on a cushion on the floor. About 10 minutes.

3.Anything you want to share about the meditation itself?
Had some trouble focusing on just being. Had a lot of distracting thoughts. :(

4.Anything you have learned for yourself today? (whether related or non-related to meditation)
That focusing is the key to making sure I have time in the morning to meditate.

Hello !

I completed a 10 minutes sitting meditation. It took place in my reiki-massage room. I sat with my back leaning on the wall and my legs spread straight before me. I set my timer (Insight Timer, app for iPhone or Android) to 10 minutes, lighted some candles (I have a meditation altar with candles and a few other things on it). Then I sat still and began to observe my breathing, thinking some words ("solidity-stability-trust" on inspiration and "breath" on expiration). The words are just to help the mind not drifting too much. I had of course some thoughts occurring and I tried to observe them and let them go away. The 10 minutes went far too quickly so I will try 15 minutes tomorrow. At the end of the meditation, when the timer bells ring I return to normal by stretching and then I thank the Universe and get up.

I think I signed up under the wrong group. I used by name not user name. I guess I can change it. I did meditate for 20 min this morning. I tried two different apps on my iphone and still want to try different things. I did get up feeling very relaxed. Great start!

Hey vietchinamom, no worries - I just helped you shift your journal to the right forum (Group #5 - T-Z). Congratulations to everyone who have completed their first day of meditation! For those who haven't, take 5-10 minutes now to go meditate, then report back with your experience!

Just updated the chart with the names of everyone who have completed Day 1's meditation.

Finished 20 minutes of meditation today.
At the start my back was killing me, I sat on a pillow with legs crossed. Finally sat down on a chair which felt much better and I could finally 'concentrate'.
I did Body Awareness Meditation from Meditation Oasis, and it felt great. Took a while to get back out of it, and the light felt very bright in my eyes, but when I was walking through the room I felt like my senses were sharpened.

Hi everyone, I've meditated twice today.

First time was mid-morning. I had to pick up my daughter from her Economics tuition, which was running late. I had a meditation session in the car while waiting. It’s the first time I’ve tried meditation in a public place, on a busy road. It was around 10:30am so it was not too had in the car and I had the windows partly open.

I tried breathing meditation. It was hard to focus at first, as many thoughts kept coming. I was also a bit distracted by the noise of cars driving by. I focussed on the action of breathing in and out. I remembered the SoHam mantra – So when inhaling and Ham when exhaling. It was quite easy then and I lost track of time and meditated till my daughter finished – approx. 12 minutes. I felt very relaxed and peaceful.

Second time was in the evening. Same method.
Both times the effect was very good, but it's definitely better meditating at home.
