Today is Day 8, and our task today is to get a great workout!:dance::dance:

Just like our diet, exercising is a core aspect of living a healthy life. Even if you eat your healthiest diet and meditate regularly, you can't hope to be truly healthy without exercise. There have been countless research that shows a clear link between increased activity in life and better health. Research has also shown that exercising daily brings tremendous benefits to our health, including increase of life span, lowering of risk of diseases, higher bone density and weight loss.

Hence today, let's get out there and get a good workout! If you're already exercising today as part of your 21-Day Action Plan, that's fantastic!

Here are some tips to integrate exercise as part of your life:
  1. How can you increase your activity level on a daily basis? Besides the standard sports and running, exercise can also come in other forms, such as brisk walking and stretching. Choose walking over transport for close distances. Climb the stairs instead of taking the lift. Go for a walk in the park.
  2. Pick exercises you enjoy. When you enjoy your exercises, you’ll naturally want to do them. Exercise isn’t about suffering and pushing yourself; it’s about being healthy and having fun at the same time.
  3. Have a variety of exercises to choose from. Adding variation in your exercises will keep them interesting. Have in mind 3-4 exercises that you can do for your exercise sessions, and rotate across them to keep things fresh.
  4. Group exercises. Individual exercises are great but sometimes they might get a little stale. Pick some group exercises every once in a while and play with your friends. The fun will increase your enthusiasm by multiple folds and you'll naturally give them your all.

Home Aerobics

I've had many times when my exercise plans get cancelled due to bad weather or other reasons, and it was very frustrating. Until I found a solution to the problem - Home Aerobics. It was a godsend. I'm now able to get my fill of 30 minutes of exercise whenever I need to, regardless of the weather! Simply load up 3 videos (each video is 10 minutes long), and get going with what the instructor in the video says! (Here's a website that lets you download Youtube videos to your computer.

Here, I'm going to share an aerobic video, and feel free to get more videos here.

You can do home aerobics by yourself too! Set 30-40 minutes for yourself, play a few of these videos and follow what they're doing! In fact nowadays, I prefer this to actual class aerobics now because it's so convenient and you can do it in your room whenever you want to.

Continue this habit for the rest of 21DHL

Remember that exercise isn't a 1-day thing - it's a lifelong process! Add exercising into your 21-Day Action Plan (if it's not there already) and follow up with your exercises when the day comes.

Day 8 of Your 21-Day Action Plan

What are your 21DHL tasks listed for today? Do them with excellence and report them in your 21DHL Journal! Also, read your group mates' 21DHL journals and cheer them along! Pick a few members' journals and make it a point to post meaningful replies there.

Remember, if you feel a particular member is doing a great job in helping others/you, give him/her a reputation point! Click to his/her profile page, look under reputation, and click "Rate". Then, select +1 and type the reason you're giving this rating to him/her.

Share Your Progress on Day 8!

What workout did you do today? How did you feel doing your workout? Share with everyone! Let's all kick Day 8 into high gear guys!

In the meanwhile, stay tuned for Day 9's task!

Oh wow, that 80's aerobics video is a classic! Nice find Celes! The hi-nrg music with the drum machine that sounds like an old Sequential Circuits model, and it was shot in Waikiki too.. Brilliant!! Even the hairstyles  I wonder if that guy is still around? Gilad Janklowicz.. Will have to look him up on Google sometime.

Yeah, this is a good task! I'll give it a try later on. I don't mind a bit of 80's freestyle/hi nrg music :) Creating a playlist will let you view a number of these videos non stop without having to select the next video.

Yes! exercise - the missing aspect of my program. I've it on my list already but pushing this in along with other tasks on weekdays is what has been difficult this week. Weekends give me time to workout. I will make sure I wake up early enough to accomodate time for exercises. I prefer Yoga. I take the stairs at work ( climb four floors ). A brisk walk around the park is another thing I'm gonna add to the list :)

Wonderful program Celes. I couldn't carry on with the 30 DLBL in september 2010. But this one's going great guns. Also do you think I could still pick up a few pointers from the september DLBL program?

Yes definitely! I'm having problems creating a playlist from them though - I downloaded the videos as .mp4 and seems that there is no playlist option for the quick time player (-_-?). Do you download the videos as .mpeg instead of .mp4?

I recommend you check out the old September entries and the comments area for the Sep 30DLBL. Though honestly Sept's version is more like an inferior version of the actual 30DLBL, so I encourage everyone to get the book and do the 30 days program straight from the book instead (plus there's the free membership pass anyway which gives lifetime access to all 30DLBL runs here. The next run is April '11).

Hi Celes

I meant to hit the gym and go for yoga classes as well but have been having a very bad flu since yesterday and have been drowsy with 5 different kinds of medication.

Celes, what's your advice for those who may fall sick. What kind of exercises can be done? Also, I always have alot of phlegm from having anything that's cold, can't have citrus fruits. Milk too us out including soya milk. I consulted the doctor and all she said was, you know these are causing you phlegm so the best would be to avoid it!!! with no solution. I am still young and don;t intend to be like this forever - can't consume almost anything and everythign that's cold.

Thanks
Ana

Hi Celes.
I went to gym this morning. It was great to spend time exercising. I felt fantastic after doing it, although quite tired LoL. I believe sports (especially if you got enough sweat) will help the detoxification process in your body. I don't know whether this true or not, or just my suggestion in my mind. :) Sometimes, it can refresh my mind too, after being stuck with some things/works.
Basically, my exercise routine includes 2 session of cardio (around 15-20 minutes each) + weight lift (around 30 minutes).. Sometimes, I also play badminton or table tennis with my friends.
Besides going to gym, I choose to walk to my office. It's quite near from my house, just 5 minutes. But rather than using vehicles (such as motorcycle), i still prefer walking and enjoy the sunshine in the morning :D

Hey Ana, I'm sorry to hear you've been sick! Hope you're feeling better. I'm not a doctor so I can't speak in this regard. It's best to consult a doctor on this if you're sick. My take is to do what feels most appropriate given the condition. If you're too sick to work out, then wait until you're better before you do any exercising. Light activities like walks, strolls, are good ways to keep your body moving.

Ana Wrote:Also, I always have alot of phlegm from having anything that's cold, can't have citrus fruits.

Why do you have phlegm when you have something that's cold? It might be good to look at the root cause because avoiding the cold foods seem more like addressing the symptom. If you can't eat anything that's cold, doesn't that rule out half the things you can eat/drink, including cold mineral water?

I believe you are right about sweat helping detoxification. That's part of the reason I use deodorant that is not also an antipersperent.

I believe that if you want to create a playlist you would have to use iTunes for that. iTunes should support videos in playlists. If not there is always VLC player.

Celes, the forums keep looking better and better. The new drooling emoticon seems to be quite popular and I like the new status bar. I'm not sure what the other members think but I much preferred having a a "Today's Posts" to a "Recent Posts" option at the top of the screen. This is mostly because I may not have the time to reply to all the threads I want so if I visit the forums in the morning and come back later in the day I then have to search around for the other threads I may not have been able to get to earlier. I just like to always be able to see all the new content that was posted in the last 24 hours by clicking one button

Hey Matt! Does the VLC player support .mp4 formats? Where can I download it?

Actually the function is already there - it's the first link after the welcome greeting message. The link leads to all the new posts since you last surfed the forums - The catch is that it doesn't show you all the threads from before your most recent visit, whether you've read them in the past or not. I just updated it such that the link shows all the latest posts for the ady regardless of whether you've read them or not. Hope that helps!

It does. You can get it from download.com. This is usually where I find all the software i use.

Yes, they're all mp4 now. They used to be flv. I use Media Player Classic which comes included with this codec pack, so I never need to use Quicktime to watch movies. That said, I'm not sure if Media Player Classic has playlists, but once you install that codec pack, you can open mp4 files in Windows Media Player, and you could create a playlist there. :D When I mentioned playlists, I meant on YouTube itself for anyone who doesn't mind streaming the videos

Oh also, the great thing the about the K-lite mega codec pack is that it will let you view thumbnails of nearly every different video format. There's an option during install for this. I personally have never liked VLC player. Sorry Matt ;)

Since I complete a tough strength training workout on Friday, my muscles need Saturday to recover, so I won’t be doing any kind of workout.

It's true that we have to do what we enjoy. The only thing I hate more than following an aerobics tape (how 1980s!) or going to an aerobics class is using a cardio machine. These activities are not something that I’m going to do regularly for the rest of my life. If I’m going to get my heart rate up, it’s going to be doing something (preferably outside) like going for a walk, riding my bike, playing tennis, etc.

On the other hand, I love dancing. When I lived abroad, I used to attend weekly Scottish dancing evenings (regularly for 6 years!), but I don’t have that opportunity where I live now. I wanted to sign up for Zumba, which I tried once last year, but the classes are late in the evening, nearly at my bed time. :bleah: The problem with being an early riser is that the society in which I live is gear towards people who stay up late!

So, I’ve borrowed an introductory Zumba DVD from the local library. I’m hoping that I can learn the basic moves while I’m looking for a class that meets at a convenient day and time.

Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Maji, I am the same way. I don't particularly like following an aerobics instruction. I have a DVD and followed it a couple time but didn't really enjoy it (I'm sure my downstairs neighbors didn't either :P ). It's cold here in the midwest so I joined a gym just so I could use their treadmills for the next couple months. I don't like the treadmills nearly as much as I enjoy jogging outside in the early morning though. I'm basically just trying to wait out winter. It's actually supposed to snow 2 inches here today but so far it has been a fairly mild winter for us. I'm hoping I can start exercising outside again in early February.

I have never heard of Zumba before but I just watched a YouTube video on it. It looks more fun than traditional aerobics. Let us know how it goes.

I love to keep activated. I gym minimum of 3 days a week - cardio and weights. I also enjoy walking very much and walk everyday for at least 40minutes more on days where I help our 10 year old with her paper run, and especially love yoga or body balance(similiar to yoga) . Try for 2 classes a week, but am content to make at least one class.

With Great Warmth and Possibilities To All
