Cast Your Vote For November’s Challenge! [Poll]

Thank you for your amazing responses and suggestions to my previous post on November’s Challenge.
It seems that many of you are keen on having a challenge for November, so we’ll be going ahead with one!
The next question would be: What challenge should we have? As my schedule for November is quite packed (I’ll be doing a lot of traveling in the month, from Philly to Washington to NY (complete with reader meet-ups in each state), and I’ll be busy looking for an apartment after I reach NY), my plan is to have a simple, cultivate a X habit daily for 21 days challenge.
I’ve read through many of your suggestions and these are the 3 challenges which I’m most keen to conduct in November:
- Fitness / Exercising / Get-active challenge. Engage in some form of exercise, be it running, walking, jogging, swimming, aerobics, doing house work, climbing the stairs, etc
- Journaling / Self-reflection challenge. Journal on important, self reflective questions about yourself and your life – hence leading to increased in self-awareness. I’ll assign a new question every day, at the blog. We’ll all journal on the same questions and share our answers here on the site.
- Cultivate [X] habit. Where [X] refers to any habit of your choice. Since all of us have different habits we want to cultivate, this will allow everyone to participate, while not having to conform to a particular habit. Note that such a challenge comes with a downside – we’ll not get as much synergy compared to if we work together on a same activity, like in #1 or #2.
Besides the list above, there are ideas which I’m keen to explore for challenges next year (but not for the upcoming November challenge, as I don’t have the time/resources to work on them at the moment):
- Improving relationships - Improve the relationships with people of our choice – be it parents, friends, siblings, colleagues, bosses, etc.
- Communication skills – Have difficulty communicating with others? Want to improve how you converse with others? This will be the challenge for that.
- Raw food challenge - Go on a total raw food diet for 21 days
- Juice fast challenge - Go on a complete juice fast for 21 days
- Career development – Challenge to improve our career standing, via working out our career objective, understanding our career vision, working out a career map, identifying our key performance indicators, improving our workplace performance, etc.
- Business development – Identify our business, ideal vision, business model, goals, preliminary steps to start it up, and so on.
- 80/20 challenge – Apply the amazing 80/20 principle in all areas of our life – from the big rocks, to the day-to-day actions.
- Socializing/Making new friends – To meet like-minded people and increase the friends in our network
- Learn a skill - Pick a new skill to develop in 21 days.
And there are the mainstay challenges which will be in 2012 and the years beyond:
- Healthy living – Live a Healthier Life in 21 Days (Jan ’12 – Tentative)
- Life development - Live a Better Life in 30 Days (Jun ’12 and Dec ’12 – Tentative)
- Character development – Be a Better Me in 30 Days (Date to be decided)
So for now, I’d like to get your vote on which challenge to have for November, out of the 3 options I stated above. Please cast your vote in the poll below:
Update: The poll has now ended. Journaling is the top pick with 158 votes, out of 294 voters! Thanks everyone who has voted and proceed to the November Challenge: 21-Day Journaling Challenge
The option with the highest votes will be selected as the theme for November. I’ll close the poll and consolidate the results 48 hours from now (Oct 26, 12pm, GMT +0 London time). So cast your vote now! Stay tuned for the final outcome after that!

I voted for the journaling/self-reflection challenge.
Originally, I was hoping we would have something related to our diet and health for the November challenge but since I now know we will likely have 21DHL in January anyway I think the journaling challenge would be best. Journaling is a great way to have a conversation with yourself since it forces you to really define your ideas and choose your words more carefully than if you are simply thinking in your head. A self-reflection challenge seems like it would be unique from any challenge conducted before. I think it would be great to see everyone sharing their reflections in either the forums or the blog comments.

I went for the exercise challenge as since I am sufering terribly wih a cold at the moment, I am hoping by the start of november I will be well enough to workout, but I too like the idea of the journalling challenge with a prompt each day. I personally don’t mind either way as both hav great benefits and I agree that we will be doing these two more ‘together’ than the habit forming challenge. So I’m on either/or. ;-)

I also went for the exercise challenge. If instead of voting, we are to assign points, exercise is my first choice followed by cultivating a habit. I still have a ton of write up when i joined 2010 DLBL which basically covered everything i wanted to do for the next five years. This time, i am more on to taking action than reflection part. Though if majority chooses journaling, it would not hurt either. November is a perfect month to revisit and develop plans for 2012. : )

I think a journalling challenge would be very beneficial for everyone. When I reflect on things that have happened or ideas I always come up with a new perspective on life. Thanks Celes for your idea to vote on the three topics.

Awesome!! Everything sounds so good to me, I really wanted a fitness challenge, but I went for the journaling one cause I think it would be very helpful to sit down to self-reflect and redefine our ideas just before the upcoming year.
I´m really looking foward to the November challenge and to all the 2012 challenges!!

I think self reflection journaling will be a good start. It will force us to commit the time and energy to really turn inwards for greater improvements in other areas. When done correctly, this will get other areas of life in order.

Celes, I too voted for the journaling/self-reflection challenge.
I would love to have an everyday dose of thought provoking, self-reflective questions to force me into getting to know myself more on the inside as a base for my self improvement. I hope that one get selected. Looking forward to it!

Dear Celes,
I was quite happy to see the jounalling challenge as an option. It seems a logical next step to the challenges of August and October. It is and will be what I was planning for myself anyway.
I continue to work towards my ideal life and ideal self.My resolution is to continue meditation 5 times weekly- a reasonable goal that I can surpass.Everything else is included in my quadrants and charts.
This has been such a wonderful opportunity. But working on all this and reading your articles which are informative and chock full of insight are akin to gong to university while working and married.
Worth it.? Beyond my wildest dreams.
Thank you for yet another challenge.Never ever was a self-help addict but here I am finding the answers to my needs and more important, the tools to work with.
Oh boy ! Let’s go!

I chose the Habit one, it is clearly my life goal at the moment and it would be so cool to do it with all the community

I’d like to see a journaling challenge, as it is such as useful tool, and you’re automatically left with a written record of your progress. I’ve journaled intermittently in the past, and looking at past entries is always inspiring, so i’m intrigued by a community journaling effort.

I want to do the Journal/Reflection challenge. I learned from my english teacher how much writing can be a benefit to practice. Sometimes you end in places you didn’t expect when you started. I think the Journal challenge would lead a lot of changes because we’ll realize a lot of who we are by the time we finish

I chose exercise because I live in Midwest and as the weather gets colder, I tend to stay indoors more and need to continue to move and stay fit. I hope this will motivate me to get my workouts in each day.

Hello,
I chose Journaling / Self-reflection challenge. I used to journal almost every other day but it seems that when it’s needed most, I often make excuses or end up procrastinating. I think this will be a fantastic opportunity to get back in the habbit of it. I’m super excited for this challenge and any challenge at that! Also, not to mention I’ve been wanting to increase my self-awareness. So I think I’ll get the most out of the journaling. I hope many others will too, if it’s chosen.
I’m excited for whichever one gets picked!
