Nice info Celes,

I stop watching TV 5 years ago and it´s awesome...Real life is far more beautiful that just sit there in front of a box that only goal is to make you unhappy and under control of other´s.

Most of my friends don´t understand it, ¿Why you don´t have a TV? they say! but I just laugh about it...I´ll be sending this link to all of them ´cause you explain it in such clear way.

Thanks!

Since long ago I've decrease my TV time into very less. Only picking up nice shows/movies which contain educational and inspiring content within.

Entertainment or other shows will only watch once in awhile after a long day of hard work. :D
Great points there. :)

I enjoyed your article and agree with your points. There are a few I might add. I teach and consult in the field of applied neurophysiology, call me a personal trainer for everything above your neck! Watching TV or using computers is detrimental to your brain's development and health. It's not the content, mind you, although that is the subject for another time. It's the lines and scan rate on the TV or monitors that affects the nervous system.

Goes something like this. Your eyes take in information that's processed in the occipital area at the back of the brain - those two bumps at the back of your head located right behind each eye. One of the physiological results is that in most, it activates the tendon guard reflex, also known as fight or flight. This results in the release of cortisol, a hormone that your body releases when you go into this stress state. One of the results of increased cortisol production is the storage of fat! Long-term exposure to cortisol results in damage to cells in the hippo-campus. This damage results in impaired learning.

Another physiological result of TV and computer watching is ocular lock. An example of this is adults is when you are are watching TV and it's 10 PM and you say, I have to go to bed, big day tomorrow, then you notice it's 11:30 PM and your still watching. With children, notice when they are watching, their attention is not interrupted by "time for dinner" requests. This relates to your information about bonding of families and friends.

None of this has anything to do with content; it's physiological, - your body's automatic response to the environment. For the sake of your personal ecology, I'd suggest less time in front of TVs or monitors.

All the Best - Always!

I like your article points. My research has shown your ideas to be true, however I have also read the opposite from different posts like this one. Do you have any recommendations for getting more quality information on gardening or related topics? I would definitely appreciate it!

Wow, nice article! I completely agree with you. I live faraway in Jakarta, Indonesia, btw, but I share the same view. I still watch tv, but very seldom and for entirely leisurely reason. Yes, there was a time when I ticked my schedule based on tv shows I like, but after some time it felt too restraining. Now I live a relatively tv-free life, and I am much happier. And no, I certainly don't miss out on anything! :-D
