[Pic] The 8 Habits of Highly Productive People, Manifesto Version
Manifesto, n. – A public declaration of intentions, opinions, objectives, or motives. (Dictionary.com)
Lately I discovered a new way of distributing PE’s content – as image manifestos.
A manifesto is a declaration of intentions or principles to achieve a desired aim. An image manifesto would be a manifesto, in an image form. Like the famous Holstee Manifesto, which has been widely distributed around the net.
Image manifestos are great since it conveys the message at one glance, is easy to refer to, and serves as a great daily reminder. It’s a simple, no frills, right-to-the-point way of distributing content.
Since a lot of the content on PE is gold, I thought it’d be great to adapt some of the classic hits into image manifestos. This post marks the first of image manifestos I plan to create. If it proves to be popular, I’ll create more. Just let me know in the comments area.
And let me know which posts you’d like to see as manifestos.

22 Useful Freeware You Will Definitely Find Handy

Today’s post is to share my favorite applications (including web-based apps), based on years of sieving and experimentation. You’ll find many of them very handy. The amazing thing is – they are all freeware!
Total count: 22. I’ll add on over time as I find new gems. Enjoy!
- E-mail: Gmail. Not exactly a software since it’s web mail, but its hands down the best email managing system IMO. (and I’ve used other email clients before like Outlook, Lotus, Yahoo).
- Browser: Google Chrome. I switched from Firefox last year. It took some getting used to in the first week. But after that, I started loving Chrome. I love that it lets you shift your tabs around, unlike Firefox. It also lets you “pin” your frequently accessed pages so it becomes a small icon on the navigation. It’s fast, minimalistic in interface, and very reliable as a browser.
- Calendar: GCal. Keeps all my schedules in check, and it’s web-based so you can access it anywhere – even your phone if it has the web-surfing function
- Task Shuffler: Ever felt the need to move the programs around in your task bar? I know I do. This is an extremely handy program that allows you to do just that, simply via…

The 8 Habits of Highly Productive People
What makes a productive person? Is it the ability to robotically churn out work, hour after hour? Is it the amount of discipline one has? Is it the speed at which one works?
Before we can discuss what makes a productive person, we should first define what productivity is. The common notion of productivity is the ability to churn out a lot of work in a short span of time. True, but not complete. IMO, true productivity is the ability to create a lot of high impact work in a short span of time. This is the kind of productivity we should concern ourselves with, not other kinds of productivity which are more empty / busy work that create no impact in the long term.
For example, let’s say Peter types very fast and can reply 1000 emails a day. That doesn’t make him/her productive, because there’s little output (product) to speak of (unless the emails contribute to tangible, high impact outcomes). However, if John completes just one task in a day that has more impact than the 1000 emails put together, then he’s more productive than Peter is.
The past few months have been my most productive months for the year. I ran/spoke at a total of 8 workshops/speeches, including one in Hong…

11 Simple Tips To Effective Email Management

Emailing has become a central mode of our communication today, both at home and at work. Looking back ten years ago, it’s kind of hard to imagine this. I still remember I got my first PC then and email was a complete novelty. It was 1998 when I first sent out my email. Today, it’s the #1 tool I use to communicate with others (social media and phones coming a close second). What a difference a decade makes :D.
Email Management = Fake Productivity?
While email is intended to facilitate communication, I suspect it is killing the productivity of many. Do you often find yourself clicking into your inbox absent-mindedly, when you had just checked it only 5 minutes ago? Do you do a lot of email management activities, like searching past mails, sorting, organizing, deleting and the like? Do you spend more time typing/replying emails than getting proper tasks done?
If you answered yes to any of the questions, you are not alone. These applied to me last time. When I first started in my previous brand management job, I spent quite a copious amount of time in emails. Every time I finished clearing my emails, I would feel pretty satisfied with myself. In my mind, I thought the more emails I process/reply…
