Ask Celes – How Do You Know If Your Life Purpose Is For Life (and Not Short/Medium-term)?

This is part of the Ask Celes series, where readers were invited to ask me anything they want. The section is now over but you can read all Q&As here: Ask Celes Section.

Hi Celes, during my personal journey of discovering my life purpose I detoured through 3 Life purposes before realising my true passion, which is being a motivational speaker and a life coach. I came to this realisation because I have a vision which stretches over 30 years (hence its a life purpose/passion).

My question to you is how far is your vision for your purpose and what lead you to believe it is a life purpose and not something that is for the short or medium term? – Gordon

Hey Gordon! Believe it or not, your question actually contains the answer to your own question!

You mentioned you realized your life purpose after realizing a vision that stretches over 30 years – key words being “over 30 years”. One of the key factors that determine if something is truly a life purpose or just a passing fad is the duration in which we see ourselves pursuing it (see #2 in 6 Things To Consider Before Discovering Your Purpose). If we see it as just a temporary…

If Your Life Was A RPG, What Type Of Character Would You Be?

When I was young, I was very much into console games, particularly RPGs. Some of the all-time classics I absolutely love even to this day are the Final Fantasy series (especially FF7, FF8, FFX), Panzer Dragon Saga (Saturn is totally underrated), Shining Force (Sega 16-bit!), Phantasy Star IV, Chrono Trigger, just to name a few.

For the non-gamers reading this, a RPG is a role-playing game. In a RPG, you assume the role of the hero and embark on a journey that typically starts off benign and eventually culminate into epic-level proportions that involve battles of good vs. evil and life vs. death. Along the way, you are assisted by an ensemble cast of followers, or side-kicks. You also get to interact with NPCs throughout the game – the non-playable characters found everywhere, such towns, shops, houses and inns.

Now let’s imagine – If your life was a RPG, what type of character would you be? Would you be the hero? Would you be the side-kick? Or would you be the NPC? (more…)

In this article, I will be sharing my experience on pursuing imposed purposes by others for over a decade, what happened along the way; how I eventually realized that they were fallacies and how I finally came to discover my real life purpose. It is a long article (over 6,300 words!) which chronicles the various segments of my life and my actions during those stages. In the process, I found there were two important things which led me to my real purpose, which you will find out as you read on.

The article is so long because I want to ensure that the essence of what led to my discovery is properly encapsulated here, so that you, the reader, can get the most value. I could have written a 500 word article and made it short and snappy, but the effect will never be the same. This article is for those who are truly looking to discover what their life purpose is,…

Why should you have a purpose? Do you think people like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Mother Theresa, Winston Churchill, Helen Keller and Oprah Winfrey, have life purposes?

Of course they do! Grand, visionary purposes which other people scoffed at an earlier point in their lives. And it was their purposes which led them to their level of greatness that no one would have thought possible.

Having a purpose gives you an entirely new latitude in life. It is like your secret access pass which unlocks benefits like fulfillment, happiness and success – things people spend their entire lives trying to seek.

What is important is to understand things like abundance, success, wealth, fulfillment, etc are the results of discovering and pursuing your purpose – as long as you find and live your purpose fully and truly, everything will…
