How To Attain Healthier Gums and Teeth: Path To Better Oral Hygiene

Do you have good oral hygiene? Do you keep your teeth and gums in tip-top condition?
I used to be very lazy where oral care is concerned. For example, I would brush my teeth in the morning, but I rarely brushed at night, simply because I never knew if I would be eating after brushing. Flossing was also never a habit. I didn’t like using the mouthwash either because it would burn my mouth. I didn’t think there would be any implications from a few nights of neglecting my oral care.
Well a few nights turned into weeks, which then turned into months, and then turned into years. It became a longstanding bad habit. Last year, a visit to the dentist revealed that I had a few dental caries (i.e. decays) in my molars. It made me realize the importance of cleaning my teeth every day, and thereafter helped me cultivate the habit of good oral care.
I’ve put together this guide with the quintessential steps to achieve healthy gums (and also healthy teeth). Obviously, I’m no dentist or periodontic expert, just someone who has successfully improved her oral hygiene, and wants to share what I have picked up. If anything, this guide is meant as a reminder of what…

Hi Celes, I have a question about habits: How can I get rid of a bad habit? – Ros
Hi Ros! There are 2 recommendations I have to tackle a bad habit.
This first will be to think about the positive habit you want to build in its place, rather than the bad habit you want to remove.
So for example, let’s say you want to stop hunching your back. Rather than think about not hunching your back, think about how you can cultivate the habit of sitting up straight. Or say, you want to stop eating junk food – think about how you can eat healthily instead. Or if you want to stop being late, think about how you can be punctual. And so on.
There are 2 reasons why this is more useful. Firstly, by focusing on the bad habit, you give energy to that bad habit. Say, when you think about not hunching your back, the immediate visualization you have is a hunched back. Ironically, the more you think about that, the more you are inclined to do that….

Why I Wake Up Early (And 9 Reasons You Should Do So Too)

My life as a late riser
In the past, I was consistently a late riser. In 17 Tips to Be On Time, I mentioned one of the reasons that led me to be late last time was oversleeping. The only times I ever woke up early were when I absolutely have to: for school, appointments, work. Even then, I’d wake at the very last minute, scamper around the whole house to get ready, rush out in disarray, have to resort to taking a cab to cut down commuting time and barely make it in time. Mostly I would be 5~10 minutes late, to over 30 minutes or even an hour. On a work day, my sleeping hours would be about 2~9am (my previous workplace had flexible working hours). During the weekend, the waking hours would hover between 12pm to 2pm.
I never once thought of cultivating waking up early as a habit. Why should I wake up early for? I never understood why people would even want to…

Cultivate Life Transforming Habits in 21 Days

Have you ever thought of introducing a good habit into your life, but never got around to doing it? Perhaps you tried it for 1-2 days, but then lacked the discipline to continue afterward. Perhaps you are overwhelmed by the effort required to institute it into your life and never got around to doing it. Perhaps your attempts keep getting thwarted by other activities.
In comes the 21-Day Trial Program
. It is a self-initiated program where you stick to a certain activity for 21-days – every day continuously. While it can be used to cultivate good habits, you can also use it to try out new things which you may not necessarily pick on, just to see how they are like. These activities can be anything, from exercising, waking up early, quitting soda drinks, sticking to a certain diet, making new friends, reading a book, meditating, going to work on time, quitting smoking, etc. The list is endless.
The 21-Day Trial is not just limited to developing good habits – it can also be used to break off bad habits. Do you have any bad habits, such as biting your nails, playing video games incessantly, putting off work…
