If you’ve been wondering where I have been “hiding” in the past few weeks given the slow / non-existent updates at PE for the entire month, that’s because I’ve been working full-time on an all-new version of Be a Better Me in 30 Days Official Program (30BBM – with the guidebook and workbook). Imagine me isolated in a cave, doing nothing except work on the 30BBM Program all-day long (save for basic essentials like eating, exercising and showering). Yep, that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing!

If you have been around PE since last year August, you would know there was a Be a Better Me in 30 Days open challenge, where everyone worked to become a better person in just 30 days.
The challenge was an *immense* success. Over 1,300 participants took part (a figure only paralleled by the legendary Live a Better Life in 30 Days public live run), with hundreds more who took part passively.
Throughout the challenge, undesired traits were weeded out, ideal selves were discovered, timeless virtues were inculcated, liberating revelations were made, lessons were learned, and characters were transformed – never to be the same again!

After I decided to close the challenges section after 21DPC (Positivity Challenge) last month*, I decided that I wanted to continue 30BBM as a premium challenge, in the same fashion as 30DLBL (Live a Better Life in 30 Days).
Why? Firstly, character development is one of the 2 fundamentals of what PE stands for (the other being life development), and 30BBM is meant as the one-and-only program at PE for one’s character growth. Secondly, character development will always remain as a timeless goal, just like life development (which is what 30DLBL addresses). The decision was a no-brainer, and from there I dove straight into creating a full-fledged 30BBM program – at the same time giving it a mini overhaul relative to the last Aug run.
Regardless whether you participated in the initial Aug run last year or not, you will find this new 30BBM a unique experience by itself – one that can be done over, and over, and over again, with new benefits to gain each time.
*I decided to close the challenges section last month because I realized that the monthly challenges were taking up too much of my time, and it wasn’t a good investment of my time and energy – which could be spent on other activities like writing articles on PE or developing other new materials. The high drop-out rate for each challenge also made me feel that free challenges simply aren’t the way to go anymore, because many who sign up are often not committed, and some take the challenges for granted and don’t give them their all since, well – they are free after all. It’s unfortunate because I spend a lot of effort to design, create, and upkeep each challenge. Not having any challenges for April allowed me to take a step back and review the situation holistically.
I’m not saying all participants do that – there are many of you who have been WONDERFUL and AMAZING in keeping up with your challenge commitments, even selflessly contributing to the community by way of your sharing and participation. I’m very thankful for all of you – know that you help make PE the amazing home it is today. Thank you.

How do you rate yourself on a scale of 1-10? 30BBM starts off by getting you to do a self-assessment. Taking a hard look at yourself, rating how you are today against your ideal self, and identifying the areas to be worked on.
In 30BBM, you will be doing a deep exploration of your undesired traits – starting from Day 2. This is akin to a mental surgery whereby you will be purging out the unwanted impurities in your consciousness so you can make way for the new you.
This is the workbook template for your self-assessment task. You will be identifying your undesired traits and selecting your top 3 undesired traits, so you can work on addressing them, one at a time, on Days 2-4.
What is your ideal self like? In Day 5, you will be uncovering your ideal self, via connecting with your higher self through a beautiful
meditation and deep visualization exercise. This image of your ideal self will essentially be the person you are to grow into as you enter your next phase in life.
Workbook template for Day 5′s task. After you “meet” your ideal self, you will be selecting the 5 ideal traits that represent him/her. This is the person you are going to grow into in the next few weeks/months!!
Positive traits list with 186 possible positive traits you can take on for your ideal self (and many more not captured in the list). There is literally no end to the number of traits we can grow into!
Do you have a character board? Creating your character board is an all-time favorite task among 30BBM participants! L. Linall, Jr. puts it best- “Visualization and belief in a pattern of reality activates the creative power of realization.”. This is where you create a physical (or digital) board to celebrate your ideal self – and as a foreshadowing of the person you are about to become!
You didn’t think that you are going to identify your ideal traits and not be embodying them, did you?? 30BBM is a holistic program of theory, planning, AND action-taking. You will be working to embody each of your 5 ideal traits in the second week of the program!
Do you have a role model? Having a role model is important because it helps us to discover what’s possible – and stretch us to reach greater heights. This task is to get you to identify a role model who deeply inspires you. For those who already have a role model, you are to review if your current role model is a still a match for you – and if not, to identify a new one.
Receiving criticisms is part and parcel of life. We should not try to deflect criticisms, but learn to distill learnings from them. In one of the 30BBM tasks, you will reflect on a past criticism you receive and use it to become a better person.
Appreciating others is important, and so is appreciating yourself. Do you give yourself credit for all the things you’ve done in life so far? On Day 16, your task is to identify things you love about yourself – and then, to write a letter of appreciation to yourself.
All of us have shames and vulnerabilities hidden inside us – and it’s extremely important to acknowledge them as part of (a) becoming the person we are meant to be (b) gaining a hold over the problem, such that we can then fix it. On Day 23 of 30BBM, you will be acknowledging a shame or vulnerability which you have been keeping locked up inside you.
Is there something in your past you have still not let go of? When one is unable to let go of something, it’s because there is something he/she is still blaming him/herself for. You will look into that on Day 25.
Being a better person requires you to constantly evaluate your thoughts, removing limiting ones, and put in place new, empowering thoughts. This will be one of the very important tasks you’ll be doing in 30BBM.
Complaining tends to divert your attention to the bad parts of your life, rather than the good parts. You will be identifying the things you tend to complain about, after which you will go on a day without complaining.
As one of the final tasks of 30BBM, you will be writing a letter of commitment to yourself – as a reminder of the person you want to grow into, and as a pledge to commit to your character development.

Is there any difference between 30DLBL and 30BBM?
Yes, absolutely. 30DLBL and 30BBM are 2 totally different, completely separate programs that target 2 different areas of personal development to create transformational results.
30BBM is Be a Better Me in 30 Days Program™, a character transformation program that helps you to be a better person, both to yourself and to others around you, in just 30 days. “Better person” here refers to your definition of what it takes to be a better individual. All the tasks are designed around character development. Is it sufficient for me to do just one program?
Since they are completely different programs that deliver completely different benefits, you should most definitely get both programs to get the best benefits. There are 1-2 live runs held annually for both 30BBM and 30DLBL (usually Jun / Dec for 30DLBL, and Mar / Sep for 30BBM), so you never have to feel like you need to choose one over another. Also, you can always self-administer the program and do it by yourself, or with your friend(s) and family.
I have designed 30BBM and 30DLBL to be totally standalone programs that complement each other at the same time, and one should definitely do both to get the best out of your growth. I would not have created 30BBM if it was simply going to be a replacement for 30DLBL, because that would have defeated its purpose.
Is there any difference between this 30BBM official program and the 30BBM conducted online last Aug?
Definitely a big yes. Like I mentioned at the start of this post, this official version of 30BBM is a big step up. I have improved the course following the first beta run, based on the participant responses and based on my experiences. There are 9 all-new tasks in the new 30BBM, including a Day 0: Pre-Work. Many tasks have been reworked, rewritten, and beefed up with specific, valuable examples to guide you as you do them. The overall program design is now a lot more structured, holistic, and evenly paced. It’s bigger, better, and even more character changing.
I took part in 30BBM back in 2011. Should I get this new program?
100% yes, without a doubt. For 3 big reasons.
Firstly, 30BBM is not just a one-off thing. All the tasks have been designed to be universal and timeless, so you can do them over and over again, regardless of where you are in life, and get new results each time.
For example, Day 5′s task is on discovering your ideal self. Our ideal self changes as we grow – your ideal self this year is going to be very different from your ideal self next year, assuming you experience a lot of growth in the year (which you will by way of doing 30BBM and reading the articles at Personal Excellence). Another example is Day 20′s task on evaluating yourself in your key roles in life (such as being a mom/dad, child, friend, brother/sister, etc). Your key roles in life will probably change over time – and you need to continuously evaluate how you are doing to ensure you are the best parent/child/sibling/friend/lover/etc.
Growing a being a better person doesn’t end after just working on it for 1 month. Just like your relationships, your career and your health, being a better person is a goal that needs constant effort and attention. I mean, you don’t just shower once in your life and declare you are done after that right? 30BBM is the perfect program to help you keep your character growth in check.
Secondly, if you took part in the original 30BBM and found it meaningful, you will find this even better. As I explained above, the 30BBM official program is a big step up from the beta 30BBM and has undergone considerable changes.
