If you have been around PE since last year August, you would know there was a Be a Better Me in 30 Days open challenge, where everyone worked to become a better person in just 30 days.

The challenge was an *immense* success. Over 1,300 participants took part (a figure only paralleled by the legendary Live a Better Life in 30 Days public live run), with hundreds more who took part passively.

Throughout the challenge, undesired traits were weeded out, ideal selves were discovered, timeless virtues were inculcated, liberating revelations were made, lessons were learned, and characters were transformed – never to be the same again!

After I decided to close the challenges section after 21DPC (Positivity Challenge) last month*, I decided that I wanted to continue 30BBM as a premium challenge, in the same fashion as 30DLBL (Live a Better Life in 30 Days).

Why? Firstly, character development is one of the 2 fundamentals of what PE stands for (the other being life development), and 30BBM is meant as the one-and-only program at PE for one’s character growth. Secondly, character development will always remain as a timeless goal, just like life development (which is what 30DLBL addresses). The decision was a no-brainer, and from there I dove straight into creating a full-fledged 30BBM program – at the same time giving it a mini overhaul relative to the last Aug run.

Regardless whether you participated in the initial Aug run last year or not, you will find this new 30BBM a unique experience by itself – one that can be done over, and over, and over again, with new benefits to gain each time.

*I decided to close the challenges section last month because I realized that the monthly challenges were taking up too much of my time, and it wasn’t a good investment of my time and energy – which could be spent on other activities like writing articles on PE or developing other new materials. The high drop-out rate for each challenge also made me feel that free challenges simply aren’t the way to go anymore, because many who sign up are often not committed, and some take the challenges for granted and don’t give them their all since, well – they are free after all. It’s unfortunate because I spend a lot of effort to design, create, and upkeep each challenge. Not having any challenges for April allowed me to take a step back and review the situation holistically.

I’m not saying all participants do that – there are many of you who have been WONDERFUL and AMAZING in keeping up with your challenge commitments, even selflessly contributing to the community by way of your sharing and participation. I’m very thankful for all of you – know that you help make PE the amazing home it is today. Thank you.

Assess Yourself (Day 1)

How do you rate yourself on a scale of 1-10? 30BBM starts off by getting you to do a self-assessment. Taking a hard look at yourself, rating how you are today against your ideal self, and identifying the areas to be worked on.

Explore an Undesired Trait (Day 2)

In 30BBM, you will be doing a deep exploration of your undesired traits – starting from Day 2. This is akin to a mental surgery whereby you will be purging out the unwanted impurities in your consciousness so you can make way for the new you.

Identify your undesired traits (Day 1)

This is the workbook template for your self-assessment task. You will be identifying your undesired traits and selecting your top 3 undesired traits, so you can work on addressing them, one at a time, on Days 2-4.

Discover Your Ideal Self (Day 5)

What is your ideal self like? In Day 5, you will be uncovering your ideal self, via connecting with your higher self through a beautiful
meditation and deep visualization exercise. This image of your ideal self will essentially be the person you are to grow into as you enter your next phase in life.

Discover Your Ideal Self (Day 5)

Workbook template for Day 5′s task. After you “meet” your ideal self, you will be selecting the 5 ideal traits that represent him/her. This is the person you are going to grow into in the next few weeks/months!!

Positive Traits List

Positive traits list with 186 possible positive traits you can take on for your ideal self (and many more not captured in the list). There is literally no end to the number of traits we can grow into!

Create Your Character Board (Day 6)

Do you have a character board? Creating your character board is an all-time favorite task among 30BBM participants! L. Linall, Jr. puts it best- “Visualization and belief in a pattern of reality activates the creative power of realization.”. This is where you create a physical (or digital) board to celebrate your ideal self – and as a foreshadowing of the person you are about to become!

Embody Your Ideal Trait (Day 7)

You didn’t think that you are going to identify your ideal traits and not be embodying them, did you?? 30BBM is a holistic program of theory, planning, AND action-taking. You will be working to embody each of your 5 ideal traits in the second week of the program!

Role Model (Day 12)

Do you have a role model? Having a role model is important because it helps us to discover what’s possible – and stretch us to reach greater heights.  This task is to get you to identify a role model who deeply inspires you. For those who already have a role model, you are to review if your current role model is a still a match for you – and if not, to identify a new one.

Reflect on a Criticism (Day 18)

Receiving criticisms is part and parcel of life. We should not try to deflect criticisms, but learn to distill learnings from them. In one of the 30BBM tasks, you will reflect on a past criticism you receive and use it to become a better person.

Appreciate Yourself (Day 16)

Appreciate Yourself (Day 16)

Appreciating others is important, and so is appreciating yourself. Do you give yourself credit for all the things you’ve done in life so far? On Day 16, your task is to identify things you love about yourself – and then, to write a letter of appreciation to yourself.

Evalute Yourself in Your Roles (Day 20)

All of us play different roles to different people in our lives, and you are no different. On a scale of 1-10, how do you rate yourself in your 3 most important roles? You will be doing a detailed evaluation on Day 20, and then working to improve yourself in those roles on Day 21.

Acknowledge a Shame or Vulnerability (Day 19)

All of us have shames and vulnerabilities hidden inside us – and it’s extremely important to acknowledge them as part of (a) becoming the person we are meant to be (b) gaining a hold over the problem, such that we can then fix it. On Day 23 of 30BBM, you will be acknowledging a shame or vulnerability which you have been keeping locked up inside you.

Forgiving Yourself (Day 25)

Is there something in your past you have still not let go of? When one is unable to let go of something, it’s because there is something he/she is still blaming him/herself for. You will look into that on Day 25.

Identify Your Limiting Thoughts (Day 26)

Being a better person requires you to constantly evaluate your thoughts, removing limiting ones, and put in place new, empowering thoughts. This will be one of the very important tasks you’ll be doing in 30BBM.

A Complaint Free Day(Day 28)

Complaining tends to divert your attention to the bad parts of your life, rather than the good parts. You will be identifying the things you tend to complain about, after which you will go on a day without complaining.

Write a Letter of Commitment - To Yourself (Day 29)

As one of the final tasks of 30BBM, you will be writing a letter of commitment to yourself – as a reminder of the person you want to grow into, and as a pledge to commit to your character development.

Is there any difference between 30DLBL and 30BBM?

Yes, absolutely. 30DLBL and 30BBM are 2 totally different, completely separate programs that target 2 different areas of personal development to create transformational results.

30BBM is Be a Better Me in 30 Days Program™, a character transformation program that helps you to be a better person, both to yourself and to others around you, in just 30 days. “Better person” here refers to your definition of what it takes to be a better individual. All the tasks are designed around character development. Is it sufficient for me to do just one program?

Since they are completely different programs that deliver completely different benefits, you should most definitely get both programs to get the best benefits. There are 1-2 live runs held annually for both 30BBM and 30DLBL (usually Jun / Dec for 30DLBL, and Mar / Sep for 30BBM), so you never have to feel like you need to choose one over another. Also, you can always self-administer the program and do it by yourself, or with your friend(s) and family.

I have designed 30BBM and 30DLBL to be totally standalone programs that complement each other at the same time, and one should definitely do both to get the best out of your growth. I would not have created 30BBM if it was simply going to be a replacement for 30DLBL, because that would have defeated its purpose.

Is there any difference between this 30BBM official program and the 30BBM conducted online last Aug?

Definitely a big yes. Like I mentioned at the start of this post, this official version of 30BBM is a big step up. I have improved the course following the first beta run, based on the participant responses and based on my experiences. There are 9 all-new tasks in the new 30BBM, including a Day 0: Pre-Work. Many tasks have been reworked, rewritten, and beefed up with specific, valuable examples to guide you as you do them. The overall program design is now a lot more structured, holistic, and evenly paced. It’s bigger, better, and even more character changing.

I took part in 30BBM back in 2011. Should I get this new program?

100% yes, without a doubt. For 3 big reasons.

Firstly, 30BBM is not just a one-off thing. All the tasks have been designed to be universal and timeless, so you can do them over and over again, regardless of where you are in life, and get new results each time.

For example, Day 5′s task is on discovering your ideal self. Our ideal self changes as we grow – your ideal self this year is going to be very different from your ideal self next year, assuming you experience a lot of growth in the year (which you will by way of doing 30BBM and reading the articles at Personal Excellence). Another example is Day 20′s task on evaluating yourself in your key roles in life (such as being a mom/dad, child, friend, brother/sister, etc). Your key roles in life will probably change over time – and you need to continuously evaluate how you are doing to ensure you are the best parent/child/sibling/friend/lover/etc.

    Maaaan… I’d love to get this, and the DLBL… but I’m saving for my Feldenkrais training course at the moment and I’m strapped for cash… Argh. Even though 42$… 36$… is probably a fantastic rate for such a great course… Guess I’ll have to wait…. maybe on the next run… :)

      Hey Ffion! Aw that’s a pity! I’m sorry to hear about that but look forward to when you can get the program and join us in the official runs. I definitely really enjoyed and appreciated your active participation during the last PE challenges, and I know the other readers did, too!

      As I shared in the post, I don’t think I’ll be running free challenges anymore. It took up a lot out of my schedule and was not an appropriate investment given the time and effort. It’s also why I decided to create the official program/guidebook/workbook for 30BBM, as a way to conclude the spree of monthly challenges in the past 7-8 months. Out of every single challenge on PE, 30DLBL and 30BBM are definitely the most crucial, mainstay programs one should take to boost one’s growth, and hence why I want to conduct them at least 1-2 times a year.

    I think 30BBM was a less intensive course than others. If I remember correclty there were several catch-up days and the exercises were simpler and took less time to complete than 30DLBL.

    Will this updated 30BBM follow a similar model to the first or will it be more intesive?

      Hey Matt! Thanks a lot for your question! I wouldn’t say 30BBM was a less intensive course than others – it was definitely less intensive than 30DLBL, but that’s only because 30DLBL is really intensive. I think the other past challenges like 21DJC, 21DPC, 21DMC, 21DFC are quite lightweight and simplistic compared to 30BBM.

      That said, the new version of 30BBM will definitely be “heavier” than the old version, in terms of the number of tasks and the direction of the tasks. There will be no more rest days – the new 30BBM consists of 30 daily tasks, with one task for each day. In the public run, I had the rest days because it was a live challenge and many participants couldn’t catch up, so I had to insert break days on the fly for them to keep up.

      While there are no rest days and there is a task every day, I’ve paced out the program and the tasks such that it’s very manageable – even busy people who have work/familial responsibilities can still follow the program (I think it’s a little different for 30DLBL which is so intensive that some people can’t keep up at all, which I’ll be working on changing in the second edition). For the new 30BBM, there are 9 new tasks (including Day 0 pre-work), and for the “existing” tasks, many of them have been reworked such that one looks “deeper” and gets more out of the exercises.

      I’d say on the whole on a comparative basis, 30DLBL focuses more on theory/planning (with action as well), while 30BBM has theory/planning with heavier emphasis on action. It is related to the nature of the course too, since life development (what 30DLBL is about) has a lot to do with proper planning first, after which one sets off to achieve the goals, while character development (what 30BBM is about) comes a lot from taking action.

    This looks really awesome!!! I can definitely see all the hard work you put into this already, and I think I could really benefit from this program immensely.

    Unfortunately May is going to be super crazy for me–I would only be able to devote about one week to this before all the craziness starts. I’ll be moving in the middle of the month and then travelling for the rest of it into June. I’m excited about all the changes, but feeling a little disappointed that I won’t be able to participate in this. I hope to catch the next one–when do you think it will be?

I’m very excited about the launch and I believe the participants will really benefit tremendously from this new program (provided they work through the tasks duly). It took a lot of work than I realized but the end result is going to be very worthwhile.

      Aw, that’s such a pity regarding not being able to join the May run! If you like, you can definitely join in the May challenge for that 1 week, then sporadically follow through on the forum updates (if you want). It’s not the most ideal situation, but it’s one possible option. Or you can always do it in your own space first, then join in the next live run.

      As for the next 30BBM, I’m thinking September, most probably. Pacing wise, I’m planning to have 30DLBL during the mid-point and end of each year, while 30BBM will be at the end of the first and third quarters of each year. This way, there’s a challenge every quarter for us to regroup and get working on our growth.

    I will be back to doing this one! I skipped the April challenge because of a vacation I took. My mother came to visit the US, and I got to do one of my favorite passion, motorsport photography. So I took a break from the Challenge. But I’m back and so is my best friend! :hug:

    It was kind of funny day. Yesterday I had a really crappy day at work. And this morning didn’t start out so great. It’s just one thing after another and to think about doing this challenge May, i really didn’t feel up to committing to this. I just felt no way it’s too much. But all my friend had to say was that we can keep each other accountable, and that was enough of a reason to make the commitment.

    We are both looking forward to this! Thank you Celes for all of your hard work for this project.

    Hi Celes, it’s awesome!! I could hardly wait to get back home last night to click on the link.
    I’ve been read though the first week of activities and can hardly wait for the May challenge :dance:

    I have all your books already and not likely to miss one now. It may sometimes seem like I’m a e-book / pers dev junkie. I do procrastinate on some exercises and I am not consistent throughout challenges. But looking back, since I started the first 30DLBL and with all that have come after, there have been many incremental changes in my life and my life is much better now, both on a personal level and professional as well. I’m sure it will continue to get better.

      I never thought of you as a self-help junkie at all, even though you sometimes say that! You are constantly taking action, following up on the goals you set, and always seeking to improve yourself. That is NOT anything a self-help junkie will do at all.

      I want to also take the chance here to really thank you for all your support all these years. As you said, you have gotten all the products @ PE to date (of course I don’t expect my readers to buy for the sake of buying, but to get them because they see the value behind them), and that kind of support means the world to me. It helps me to focus on creating more content and sharing it with all of you!

      Hey Kirsten! Thank you for your purchase! :D That’s a pity that you can’t join the May 30BBM challenge – but there’ll probably be a live run for 30BBM again in the second half so you can consider joining then.

      For some reason, I was under the impression you got 30DLBL when it came out! The current 30DLBL live run schedule is to have one in June, so it’ll definitely be beneficial for you to get 30DLBL (either now or then, doesn’t really matter though the earlier you get the faster you can use and benefit from the program). You can definitely join in 30DLBL during the live run in June (assuming you don’t have other commitments).

          Hey Kirsten! No not at all, no repurchase is needed – the changes for 30DLBL will be an “upgrade” rather than a total change in the program. My current plan is to provide the upgrade at a small nominal fee to existing owners of 30DLBL. I’ll be sharing more details in May, so stay tuned!

            Great to know, because I just found the email confirm my purchase of 30DLBL way back in 2010 but sadly can not find the workbook and guide, so hopefully with the upgrade I will be able to get the whole lot again. I am going to do the challenge with everyone and will just catch up or at least look at what needs to be done during my family gathering next weekend. I have saved it in my dropbox so i will be at look at while travelling. This going to go so well with my new exercise program.

    Good to know about the 120 hours to access and the 3 downloads. Glad I will be near a printer after today, since I am in the process of traveling fom Puerto Rico to Ft. Lauderdale to North Carolina! Actually, I departed San Juan yesterday afternoon, and I am in the car right now(as a passenger) heading up the highway through Georgia! Ahh, such devotion/commitment to Personal Excellence! :heart:

    I was one of the one of the ones who was on line yesterday trying to take advantage of early bird sign-in! Good to see the note from you this morning about the server snafu! I was able to complete the purchasing process this morning

    Question has to do with 30DLBL. I purchased the guidebook and workbook for 30DLBL last time, and made just one print out and wrote right on the templates/charts in the workbook. Is there any way to print out those templates for 30DLBL so I have master blank copies to print out anytime in the future that I would like to re-evaluate my self-growth? This question and idea of making a master copy of the templates so I would always be able to continue fresh, and on fresh sheets of paper all throughout my life just occurred to me when I just purchased 30BBM and read how we have 120 hours to get the info for the guidebook and workbook.

    SO good to hear from you, Celes, and good to keep growing together along with the increasing number of us who are committed to living our best life! :heart:

    P.S. Another question is a combined few quesrtions, I suppose. I couldn’t find my way back to the questions/whatever after you closed the comments to 30DPC, and there was an area where we could come to post feedback. ??? Then, I couldn’t find a general discussion area where any of us could just toss out a comment to each other in the hopes of keeping in touch after we’ve met on challenges, etc. I kept looking around in the forums and seeing people’s older journals, but not a general discussion area. Am I dreaming there is such a place? Am I making any sense here?
    Gotta jump off…don’t have a car charger and have to be mindful of the battery. Will check back this evening or in the morning.

      Ok, I’m going to address your questions one at a time:
      1) 30DLBL Templates – Actually the workbook pdf provided is the master template itself. After you print out your workbook (I assume you prefer hard copy over digital copy, since you mentioned printing), use that as your master copy. Then, whenever you do a 30DLBL cycle, get a photostated copy of the workbook. Per page costs for photostating is usually quite low, and when you print in bulk (100+ pages for the workbook is considered bulk I’d assume), it should be at an even better price.

      But the best way if you ask me is to just use a digital copy, which is where the .odt version comes in (which came with the product package). You can create unlimited copies, easily refer to answers from past cycles, and it’s $0 cost.

      By the way, if you’re planning to print another copy of the 30DLBL workbook, hold off first since I’m working on the second edition for 30DLBL. It’ll be released in a couple of weeks time and all existing owners of 30DLBL will get to upgrade to that.

      2) Discussion area: Actually when you go to the forums, you see the “Journaling Forums”. Scroll down and you’ll see the “Discussion Forums”. “General Discussions” sub-forum is the place to go. Feel free to start any discussion you want there! Though the journaling forums seem to be the most popular.
